    One more thing to add to the list of initial things to do is clean/replace radiator. (While your there thermostat & top hose)
    Its a must & It's relatively cheap to keeping it cool & lasting a long time.

    Cheers

    agree with the other posts, good solid car if maintained, mine gets me to work every weekeday and play at the weekends.

    easy fixes, if you get one with a blck expansion tank, change it for the white one, much less prone to slitting (don't at all?) and if your radiator has the plastic plugs, replace with brass ones, these 2 fixes cost about $75 total and greatly reduce the chances of the coolant alarm going off.

    otherwise as usual, do your research and get the best one you can, worry less about age or kms and more about service history, if the owner is an enthusiast its more likely to be looked after.

    good luck

    Go easy on me boys, I love my Landy I'm just sick of a few niggling problems like drive line shutter......(you all know what I'm talking about there) done uni conversion in the rear, replaced all uni's and balanced shafts, still has play in the driveline.......Im NOT rebuilding transfer case or gearbox to eliminate anything considering rebuilding diffs to see if anything changes there but apart from a few issues me and the landy are a happy couple.

    A D1 is a good choice for a first car. Our 300 Tdi auto runs between 9.5-9.8L/100kms. As everyone has said service history is important. Without that I'd look at doing the following when you get the car:

    1) Replacing timing belt;
    2) check radiator/flushing radiator;
    3) check intercooler;
    4) check radiator hoses;
    5) Install an engine saver;
    6) if it has a black expansion tank replace it with white one;
    7) check the rubber donut on the prop-shaft; and
    8) give it an oil change.
