What ever you buy make sure you check for rust, both footwells - both alpine windows & lift the carpet in the cargo area other wise the running cost could escalate very quickly.
Rich
Would they be any good at anything else other then vehicle servicing/inspections? I Literally live 4 minutes drive from them.
I think im going to stick with a D1. Im not all that impressed that the TD5 falls into the V6 rego price bracket in Qld, so going to be sticking with a 4cyl.
As for dealerships, I had a walk through one the other week, had a good time looking at all the new defenders and Disco's, but when I asked if they had any used it was a Disco for 57k, not sure on the year. And that was it.
Iv seen one or two at various dealerships, but they've all been V8's.
So anyone know where I could possibly find one (or a few lol), or is private seller the better option?
Private is your best bet. Personally I don't believe a dealer is going to give you a better vehicle in any way. They don't fix anything they don't need to. Check out the markets section on here. There is always a Disco or two for sale and you can ask plenty of questions about it's condition and history.
Good luck!
I'm not sure what else you'd expect from a mechanic?
You will probably struggle to find a D1 in any variety of dealers, given their age now. Looking on carsales, there are only 3 out of 24 D1s listed at dealers. Start there first, as at least you can get a good idea what a D1 is all about without any obligation.
If you buy from a dealer, it will come with a hefty price premium, and a limited 1 month statutory warranty to show for that premium.
In your position, I would go for a private sale, but take it to Rick's before you hand over your hard earned. Or post a request on here, There are a few members that would do such an inspection for you for beer money.![]()
Hahah, true. Their website has says all things Land Rover, so you never know
Iv been looking on carsales a lot as of recent, theres only about 2 or 3 that are within a reasonable distance from where I live, usually in pretty bad shape too.
Probably number one rule when buying a car? well, in my books anyway. I was going to take it to RACQ as iv been with them a while and do trust them, but now I think ricks is going to be first port of call. As for members doing inspections, how would I go about finding out who is close? Would there be a particular forum?
Iv had a look around here before, seen some good ones, partly what made me join up, haha.
On another note, I saw there was a video on youtube from Vic about an aulro meetup from some show or 4x4 channel, you all seem to be a friendly bunch of people![]()
Just did some ringing to Youi & got a quote for about the same as yours BUT while talking to person on phone & then checking their book there is some interesting things.
Under "Car Cover Exclusions" on page 36 paragraph 14, you are NOT covered in ANY 4wd or Adventure Park, contest or skill tests. He verbally specifically mentioned LCMP & the likes, just curious if you know this?![]()

I knew about the competition use, but in terms of location, I asked the specific question about being covered anywhere inside the shorelines of Australia. To which the answer was yes. I was told that so long as I was driving within the manufacturer's specifications, then I was covered.
I shall ask the question again though, as what you have there is different to what I was told.
We can email you the brochure if you want or is there a way to attach on here? I've tried this -
