Hi, my thoughts are 3"is over kill. Most use 2.5 with a straight through " lukey" type muffler.i run the above, not loud in cab but from 2,500 revs and up sounds great out side. I don't think the gains from extractors for what they cost make much difference unless your doing a lot of other mods. Gary

Extractors have got to be better than the crappy cast iron exhaust manifolds, one side is reasonable but the opposite side is like a hollow log with 4 short pipes. Any improvement in exhaust flow from Rover/Buick heads, affectionally known as Nailheads after the puny Valves and ports has got to be good. I had Perry extractors, 2 1/2" pipes, a straight through (Sports) muffler and a hot dog type resonater right at the rear. I would recommend that you put a resonater on the end because without it you will get the dreaded Droning, Regards Frank.

Definitely keep the resonator, its job is to reduce the resonance of the exhaust. If you are doing any towing, the droning will give you a headache after a while. This will also make you an unrealiable driver. Been there , done that.

    Exhaust droning??????.

Not to dispute the other comments , but I only have one Lukey straight through and I don't get any droning, even towing my caravan, as I also have the 3 tank scuba gas system in the back , there's not even any carpet or insulation under them .. Just saying . Gary

It all comes down to design , my old 85 rangie had a single free flow muffler and a hot dog resonator in the rear and sounded glorious with no drone at all.
But my old 2dr rangie had a single rear custom s/s muffler with twin outlets and it gave a small amount of drone that was bearable.

I have had many exhaust over the many years, from 2 & 1/4 to 3' dumped before the rear differential.

So far, the 3 inch with standard manifolds and single muffler sounds absolutely orsum, meaty but very loud.

All my exhaust that have run extractors are not as meaty as the standard manifolds.
Have found some to be a bit raspy up the top, but seems some of my exhaust that I am not really happy with are considered as sounding rather good by others.

The best extractor exhaust combo I had was Pacemakers mated to a mild steel mandrel bent system with single hi flow muffler. It was loud when on it but didn't drone, and was relatively quiet off throttle.

I have tried three other brands of extractors, also on 2.5" exhaust but none have been madrel, and none of them sound or perform as well IMHO.

Personally I would stick with 2.5" and standard manifolds, put a single centre muffler in the system and leave it be for a while. If you don't like the noise or it drones too much for your liking then have a small resonator fitted to the rear.
    I rule!!!

    2.4" of Pure FURY!!!
