    vacuum pump oil leak

    Seems i have a common problem of oil weaping from the end cover of my vacuum pump it seems to me that the rivits on the lower half at least have come loose and was wondering if i can simply drill them out and replace them with a nut and bolt setup. if so will i need a gasket to re-seal or will gasket goo do the job.

    Any ideas would be great

    Thats what i did with mine, drilled out the rivets one at a time and replaced with 5mm bolts, spring washers and nyloc nuts, didn't need a gasket or gasket goo as there is a gasket between the 2 surfaces anyway and after nipping bolts up it stopped leaking and lasted for another 3 years before the internals failed.

    I took mine apart to replace rivets with bolts, but I found some bits of one of the valves floating around inside. I replaced it eventually with one from the UK, the Wabco ones run around GBP90 plus shipping, which is a lot cheaper than here. (Get a few other parts when you are there as the shipping is often a minimum). Before I installed the new Wabco Pump, I drilled out the rivets one at a time so as not to disturb the seal, and replaced with nuts and bolts. Hopefully now a longer term part. Good luck, Simon
