I was under the car:)
On the right side of the car (looking forward) sick your head and a torch under the car in front of the rear wheel. Look toward the rear and over the rear axle.
You will see the rear crossbeam and the bolt that attaches the crossbeam to the bottom side of the floor of the cargo area.
On the other side (left) trace the tail pipe from real axle toward the rear, the pipe makes turn downwards to go under that crossbeam. Right behind the tail pipe you will find another bolt, kind of a tight space.
Ok so its the bolts that attach the body the the chassis
Is this what your talking about?
That's right. and my theory is that when you drive over the bump and the floor is not attached properly to the chassis it just acts as a big diaphragm, hence the dramatic whoop.
I even ordered new springs in search to fix the problem.
So there are two bushes on the chassis and then the funny attachment to the body and there is some rubber there too. Mine is shot.
WOW, I see now, would never have even thought to look there, thanks heap, guess I find a part number now and were to source some from
If you find the part number post it here. I tightened mine bolt for now, but the top rubber needs replacing for sure.
Cheers mate.
That is what attaches the seatbelt mount to the chassis, rather than relying on the floorpan of the body to take the load.
There shouldn't be much relative movement there, if there is the body mounts want a close inspection.
After reading about your findings, I decided to have a look at the mounts on my Disco. They were loose and after tightening them, its as if I've tightened mine more than yours comparing the lengths of clean thread. I didn't have the noises like you describe. I appreciate you pointing these bushes out as I would have over looked them but from my findings after tightening i'd also recommend checking your body mounts or other reasons for excessive body movement
