Loss of tacho and battery warning light on... no blimmen idea

    Hey guys,

I was merging onto the highway today behind a slowpoke doing 70kph and decided to give her a bootful and overtake him/her. Almost instantly the tacho rev'd out to about 4k revs and dropped straight to 0, along with the battery warning light illuminating at the same time. I have had the tacho stop working a couple of times when ive taken her for a good swim, but only usually lasting a few seconds then the tacho is working fine again.

I've turned it on and off a few times and drove it back home and its still the same, tacho isnt operating and battery warning light is on...

Any help will be muchly appreciated!!

The alternator drives the tacho in these things, sounds you need either another alternator or repair yours. Check the wires on the back are all tight. Don't drive too far or you'll be stuck with a flat battery.

as above, mine did exactly the same thing, battery light was only flickering though, something to get done sooner rather than later, it will give up pretty quick.

FYI, just for kicks, as it looks you have already sorted this problem.

My tacho also went out and warning lights came on at some point.
My alternator was already new, so I had not idea why.
After few days, I discovered a blown fuse responsible for the instruments.
The fuse blew after I put a LED bulb as a front indicator.

    Solution:
    LED out, replaced the fuse.
    All good since then.
