I went with a Rollmaster multiple keyway set for my 3.9 rebuild, although I'm not sure if you can use the same thing with what will probably be a different timing cover.

I had to do quite a bit of work to the timing cover in order to make room. In the end I needed to advance the timing 4° to get "stock" timing, so there was a mistake with the machining of the cam or the gears. I'm glad I was able to adjust it - standard gears may well have left me with a substantial problem.

How do you get a 96 non serpentine 3.9? The belt 3.9s in Discos were phased out with the introduction of the update models in early 94.

As Garry points out, if it's the original engine from a 96 build, it should be a serpentine belt. Otherwise it's had a swap. If so, you might be able to use the Rollmaster kit after all.

Up to 94, there were 4 belts! Serpentine is one. Which is it?

    i have only 1 belt

out side on the a/c, fan etc.
    and 1 timing chain inside.
the engine is like the 97-98 the last one before the D2
