    R380 g/box and a dumb question lol

    Hey guys,

This is going to sound really dumb and you'll probably roll your eyes lol

I just replaced the R380 gearbox in my Disco with a new item.

I didn't remove the old one, someone else removed it for me and did a dreadful job in that they lost all the bolts for starters oops. So here is my question, whilst I have connected up all the electrical connectons etc, I cannot seem to find where the main electrical connector goes. There seems to be plenty of length on it so I'm wondering if it goes up into the engine bay somewhere. I just can't seem to find where it plugs in and am wondering if you could shed some light on it for me lol....

I'm embarrassed to say that I have owned this discovery since 1998 and can't believe that I can't find this plug... :-)

    Thx

When you say the loom goes into the engine bay.........you mean it comes from the engine bay?
Your loom should come from the right looking at it from the front, & go down the tunnel to the gear/trans boxes for the reverse, 4w lock & speedo.
When your under there you can see x2 of the connectors the other is up a little higher.
looking from back to front (under the car) 1st is speedo just up behind the h/brake drum, to the right is the (i think) 4w lock on the side of the trans.
The last is just above the trans on the left side of the gear box (a little tricky) but should be reverse.
Just replaced the box in mine for a R380 (was auto)

Hey thx for your reply Paul,

I have all the speedo and reverse switch etc all connected, it's the other end i'm having issues with, can't seem to find where it plugs up to the car if that makes sense.
where does the loom for the gearbox originate, the single plug that goes down to the box for the speedo, reverse etc...

I think I have an idea of where to look now.... I included a pic with the plug arrowed :-)

    Thanks again

Hmmm my loom seems to be attached/or no plug visible.
Must be behind the firewall on the right as you look at it.
Now im going to have to take a look to see if mine is the same.
Cant see why he pulled it out? Could have just left it to 1 side.

Hi Paul, apologies for the time it's taken to reply. You were spot on and the plug i was looking for was behind the washer bottle to the right as you look at the car.

    Many thanks for your help....

Hi Bushrover, the plug is more square than an ECU plug. So glad I found it as the gearbox is in and all the wiring is connected up now....
