1993 D1 cooling problem, maybe
Hi,
So I have been doing some gen maintenance to my D1, reset the TPS, adjusted and cleaned the MAF, also sleaned the temp sender terminal and I changed from using 91unleaded (not E10) to 95 ULP, now before al this my temp guage used to sit on half no matter what, now it sits on 2/3 when at cruising speed of 80kph, not sure why this is, I have ordered a thermal thermometer so I cqn have a look see whats going on at the thermostat and ret of the engine, just wondering if anyone may have an idea why the sudden climb, after adjusting these to specs I read here, one inther thing I am yet to do the timing as I dont have a light, is It possibke after maf adjustment that it may be running lean until I do the timing, I have no idea really...

Hi Kevin,
I see where your going with the running lean therefore elevated temps idea but from what you've done maintenance wise I'd be looking elsewhere for the problem.
One thing that I noticed was the "reset TPS".... What did you actually do to the Throttle Position Sensor??? I was under the impression that they were self adaptive and you shouldn't touch them as they aren't adjustable anyway??
Mate some of this stuff is obvious and I'm sure you've looked at this already but here goes... Start with the obvious as It may just be a coincidence that the ol girl started warming up after this innocent maintenance session. Crazier things have happened!
Check out the coolant level first.
Is the thermostat opening? Pull the thermostat out and slowly heat it up in a pot on the stove. Check to see that its opening at the correct temp. It should start opening about 85 degrees.
Is the viscous fan kicking in? This one can be easily overlooked!
Timing issues can affect temperature too. Probably less likely though as it sounds like this problem started suddenly.
Hopefully after checking all of this obvious stuff you'll have a win.
Let us know how you go! Good luck.
Hopefully you have a win Kevin

Unless your temp gauge was under reading before and now is reading correctly
