    Retrofit 3.9 lt radiator

Anyone retrofit a radiator from a different model car/4x4 for 3.9lt disco 1?

Can I ask why you would do that, when a radiator for a D1 is not fantastically expensive to start with, and is cheap insurance to avoid overheating a motor that is a little sensitive to heat.

Is there a particular reason why you don't want to replace like with like?

firstly trade price for a d1 auto radiator is over 500 bucks secondly thermos can easily be fitted with a single or double core radiator rather than the 3 core and thirdly its the second radiator that the tanks have cracked within 12 months.

Mine cost me $390 delivered, and is still going strong 3 years later. Clearly you've had a couple of poor quality rads.

I can't help with the question you've asked though, and I've not heard of anyone doing it.

You could get an old 3.5 Range Rover radiator second hand. But you might have difficulty depending on which oil coolers are in your 3.9 rad.

LRDirect. £160 for the radiator itself and £70 shipping from what I remember. Took about 4 days to arrive.

I have a standard radiator in front of my 3.9 V8 and have fitted AU thermo fans with minimal trimming of the thermofan shroud. I now have about 40mm clearance between the thermo assembly and the front of the engine. I don't think you will have a fitment problem.

The thermos were about $140-ish new on evil-bay and the temperature switch was to control the thermos was $67 (Tridon part no. TFS105) which I put in the top radiator hose.
