    The same problem can occur at the end of the drive,, move the selector but the CDL remains engaged,, reversing usually works. Take Note of the light and dont just drive off into the distance--

    Well she's all good working fine, light and all!!! Done a few circle's left,right then backwards a few noises,jacked it up and the wheel was clunking going around.So a bit more circle work,another clunk,jacked it up,another half a turn and she was locked in and light was on.Drove great...Sweet! Thank for advice.

    p.s. mines also a 96
    Mine was the same town car, when I bought it the guy I bought if of didn't know what the CDL lever actually did, few sprays with WD40 and in she went.
    Read on here someware that you either use it or loose it with CDL, so every time your in soft going operate the CDL.
    Do not try this on hard surfaces as mine suffers from windup in a big way. IE wont disengage
