URGENT 31 inch tyres on standard 300 tdi gearing

215 is a narrow tyre so wont go anywhere near the guards, anything over the stock 235 is at risk of clipping the guard, the height will only make them rub the inner guard.

No bump stop packers but tall springs do reduce the travel, more coils equals more metal. Still likely to hit inner guards but much reduced due the the Koni's i fitted.

My 255/65R16's don't rub the rear guards either. But because they are low enough.

Please tell me you're not using spring bind to limit travel!:o

Iv been running 31 inch tyres for a couple of years now on my Tdi auto, using a 2 inch lift and the camel cut. One of the most important things is getting15. Inch rims with the right offset I bought 2 sets before getting it right. It has knocked off a bit of performance on the hills but the performance off road more than makes up for it.

Generally 31" tyres available for 15" rims are wider than 31" available for 16" rims. If you're using less offset to keep turning circle without rubbing on the radius arms then you'll be poking into the guards even further.

I probably should have said my comments about my 245/75/16s not rubbing with the 50mm lift and adjusted steering lock were with them being on LR steel wheels identical to the factory steel spare. Not sure if that makes any difference to you.

Got the 31s. Tyre size is not the problem. It's the offset in the rims as someone mentioned before. They stick too much out!!!!

What size and offset are you using mate, Im assuming a 15x8 +/-??

15/7 inch the first ones I brought were 15/8 and stuck out way to far iv looked for the paperwork for them and can't find it I'm pretty sure there a -25 offset, if you put a straight edge on the outside of the rim it is about 75mm to the flat in the center of the rim. As you can see from the attached photos they are a very neat fit and don't need flairs, and don't rub on full lock

When stock they articulate the rear suspension enough to tuck a wheel up in the guards. Looks like you can't do that with those tyres.

found the paper work for them -25 offset 15/7" dynamic rims, I have had trouble finding somone who could balance them due to the massive hole in the middle of the rim, I have to go to the next town to a guy has a machine for balancing tyres on coaster busses and small trucks
