Brake caliper question for Discovery 1 300Tdi

    Hi guys,

The front left caliper on our 300Tdi is leaking fluid which has drained the reservoir above the master cylinder.

Question - Can my Discovery 1 1993 3.9 V8 caliper fit the Tdi which is a 1998 model?

If so I can donate the caliper to keep my wife on the road (kids have to get to school and training etc).

    Kind Regards
    Nick

Pretty sure they are interchangeable - as long as there were no changes between the earlier and 98 that I am unaware of. (I am using the calipers from my old parts 95 V8 on my 95 TDI at the moment. Basically rebuilt the spare ones first and makes the changeover quicker). Do a visual check to make sure, but there's no harm in trying.

93 calipers (3.5, not 3.9) had 2 brake lines and 3 bleed nipples, so check what your 98 caliper has, in the way of brake lines and nipples, Regards Frank.

Think you might find that the tdi 98 should have 1 bleed nipple per caliper. I have just replaced rotors and seals pistons in mine as also lost fluid in front master cylinder . Its scary when you put foot on brakes and pedal hits the floor. Easy job to replace seals and pistons. My tdi 97 model with abs has 1 brake line in per caliper.

Mine is late 93 (11/93) the first month of the 3.9 V8 Tank.

I'll check the lines and bleed nipples, if not a bloke is selling a used caliper from a 98 4.0 V8 same year model as our Tdi I think that should be identical right?

All sorted, bought a used one and fitted it and I'll rebuild the one that came off during the week.

My last V8 Disco 1 was a 12/93 and it had a 3.5, so it seems your Disco had the single brake line then , Regards Frank.
