    BRIGHT SPARK

Hey guys got a set of 9mm eagle HT leads and iridium spark plugs off a mate for a carton(good price). my coil and cap are looking a bit sad whats a good upgrade for my 3.9 ignition system? have been doing some research on bosch gear is there anything better out there? it seems a shame to put this good gear together with my old crap stuff. is it a waste having good plugs and leads while the coil and dizzy are the standard items. any thoughts guys

    "Bling" leads for increased performance?

9mm leads are a complete and utter waste of time, you only need 5mm leads for a reliable spark. See any 90's Toyota and they run forever on 5mm leads. Rover stock 7mm or aftermarket 8mm leads are perfectly adequate too. It's not the thickness of the rubber that makes good leads it's the details of construction of the core material that matters. Then there's the type, quality and tolerance of the end boots too. If you dare run a 1960s design Rover V8 continuously over the redline you may have a case for ignition upgrades. Otherwise just do the bosch module upgrade and keep the stock dissy and it'll run just fine.

Seeing this is the 21st century any meaningful performance upgrade involves coil packs and full electronic timing, similar to what the D2 has. Various peeps have done it, do a search on here and you'll find them. Google "Megajolt".
