Fitting 40l Engel Fridge Rear D1

    Everyone,

I am aiming to create my own drawers for my D1, part of which is to include an Engel fridge. Been looking at this for a while now, I was hoping to fit a 40l Engel fridge lengthways between the door and the rear seats. I've read in a few places that this is supposed to be possible at a tight squeeze but when I measure the distance it seems to be about 1cm short. Has anyone got a picture of their fridge in the back of the D1 to show how tight the fit is, bit worried about putting out all this money & ending up with something that has to be put in the wrong way round.

    Thanks,

    Christopher

I have seen people remove the handles to have them fit this way but unsure what size that was. I had a larger size so had to have it going across ways and took most of my room.

The way I got around this was to buy a D2.

    Dave.

Yeah, just been out to measure it all again, may be that I just have to settle for a 32l version :/

I measured it and decided the 40 litre wouldn't fit, so I'm going to look another brand whch is taller, but shorter.

I have a engel 40l mounted lengthways in my D1. The rear handle is removed. Fridge is on a slide too. It's tight but ok. Touches back of seat and door. Had to cut a small square out of cargo barrier mesh so the fridge could touch back of seat if that makes sense.

Thanks everyone, seems it is a bit of a tight fit, might end up mocking it up in cardboard/wood and see whether it fits or not.

Am going through the same dramas but with a60L just won't happen mrs won't let me take back seats out bit thinking might be able to remove just the small side of the back seat and leave the other side there. Thinking that will be good compromise

My MT45 fits but had to take off the handles and just made some flexible ones up using some webbing strap. I have a Milford cargo barrier and there is no way that it would fit with the metal handles in place (as it is, my latch is a bit disfigured from getting whacked by the rear door). I have thought about a slide as well but as the back seats angle backwards, the higher you lift the fridge, the less room you have.. meaning you would need a really low profile slide from what I can see.. but would love to be proved wrong (as long as instruction diagrams and photos are provided

The other option is to use an Engle Eclipse as the lid hinges from the side allowing it to be mounted across the back of the car.. although maybe not ideal for a drawer layout.

I miss my old Stage One Series III with 90 degree bends and straight edges and quite often curse the "stylist" who designed the rear of the Disco with all those stupid angles and intrusions no regards to easy packing

    Cheers,
