Disregarding fuel economy? V8 all the way.
NO timing belt, P gasket, undersized cooling system, vibration and drone at 100km/h, smoke on startup, etc etc.
The auto trans in the V8 are NOT prone to many failures, and as long as decent oil change intervals and less idling in traffic etc then valves and therefore cam and lifters etc will last quite well. Have seen worn out cams and sticking exhaust valves as low as 90,000km, but others have cracked the 250K mark without a spanner on them.
