    Front bar on the back??

I am looking at rear bars for my D1 and am amazed at how much is asked for pretty simple peices of steel.

With the amount of tjm and arb bars around, i wondered if i could modify the mounting plates and hang a tjm bar with the hoops removed off the back of my Disco.

I plan on cutting the rear quarter panels for extra clearance and the body is about the same width at the back (from what i can see by eye) surely with a bit of modification (and extending the wings) it would make a solid rear bar?

I plan on adding a swingaway carrier as well and one of those steel bars would make a pretty good platform to work from.

    Whats everyone's thoughts?

Bar is wrong shape to fit the rear, i'd just make one from some C channel steel or rectangular with ends shaved or bent around to add protection.

I modified a TJM bar from a Hilux to go on the back, the mounts where the same width as the chassis and I used the hoops that cover the headlights to support the wings down to the chassis, I did have to cut and fill 2 V's in to the top of the bar to reshape but it ended up being a really good fit, I also cut the mounts off the chassis and welded in some recovery points that the bar mounts too.
These are the only photo's I have available at the moment but I can upload more tomorrow if you want?

    Cheers

I'll get some more photo's over the weekend, I'll be moving the bar over to my new Disco in the next few weeks and changing the way it mounts so I'll get some more pics then too

    Cheers,

    Tristan,

That would be awesome if you could do that. You built a very tidy bar and it's exactly what I had in mind.

    Can't wait.

    Thanks,

    Ok, Pics . . . . . .
Here it is still on the old Disco which I've started to strip for parts

    This bolt screws into ....

This, which is welded into the chassis with some plates

This is the hoop turned into a side support

    And the other end

As you can see its taken a fair few hits and survived, I painted it by brush with Killrust so I could touch it up when needed

    Cheers

    Tristan
