I have a diesel and I aint never seen one of them before but surely it must fit somewhere?
I know where that glove goes though
Hi all,
New member with a new (to me anyway) Discovery 1 V8 auto.
SO...I am replacing the front propshaft which went the other day and took out this metal bar thingy that was attached to the transmission.
I cannot work out what it does....do I need it?
It broke at the rear attach point when the rear UJ went on the front propshaft.
Any thoughts appreciated.

It's not the filler tube for the auto is it?

locating brace.
stops the engine and trans from moving around.
only really any use if the mounts are buggered.

Quick responses!
Not a filler tube...it is solid metal round right down to the end that attaches to the transfer case where it gets flat...attached by two bolts at the transfer case end.
At the gearbox it goes through a hole hanging off the side of the casing and then gets a bolt on the end.
Mystery metal!?!
PS. Do you know where the glove has been though?![]()
I figured it must be some kind of brace as it had no visible functions...did not move or lever anything.
Thanks for the advice.
Most appreciated.

Correct answer....but what happened to the other glove? A one armed mechanic?
So it is stoping the TC from moving/fleexing rearward away from the g/box ?. I have never seen one on any engine/ trans configuration. Maybe it catches the broken tailshaft before it smashes through the side of the gearbox.
Appears that the LR part name is 'tie bar' (item 19 in the image).
