    No heater, its been disconnected

So the other day was wondering why my heater wasn't working and discovered its cause the hoses aint connected. Found the right in front of firewall with a piece of pipe joining them up instead of sending them into cabin and heater core.
Was wondering if maybe a precious owner had disconnected it due to a leaking heater core or something. Is it possible to somehow check this without pulling out 90% of my dash or connecting it up and find the cabin filling with water.

    I'd say it was leaking.
You could hook it up and pressure test the system.

How would one go about pressure testing a heater not really wanting to have the cabin start filling with water or having electricals shorted out

You've heard of air? Suggestion: fit a length of heater hose to each pipe, clamp a tubeless tyre valve into each hose, then use a pressure gauge and a bicycle pump. Pump it up to around your cap pressure and listen for whistling noises from the heater area.

This is common practice. The high cost of a new heater core plus the amount of expensive labour involved in replacing it as it usually involves taking half the interior of a modern car out to do so. In Qld. a car so modified should not be eligible for a Safety Certificate and would have to be sold unregistered unless the seller can find a co-operative licenced inspector. One ruse to overcome this involves hooking a 12 volt hair dryer into the demister plumbing to provide a stream of warm air when the inspector tests the demister.

    Same as in my D1.

If it has been disconnected you can be 99.999% certain it leaks. I tried reconnecting mine and adding radiator stop-leak but it was too far gone for that.
