    Grab Handle

    G'day Guys,

The Mrs has requested I fit a grab handle to the passenger a-pillar of my disco 1 and I have finally got around to looking at it. Has anyone fitted one before? and is there anything to screw it into. Also I'm assuming the fascia cover is just held in with clips so I can just prize it off.

    Cheers

    Rob

I thought that the handle on the LHS of the dashboard above the glovebox compartment was most useful for getting in and out of the passenger seat, is it not?
And yes, the facia cover of the pillar is held with two clips, one top and one bottom, but lever out carefully otherwise the plastic will break where the clips attach. Gaz

That would be the case but I have a pesky passenger airbag where that handle is supposed to be. So is there anything behind that fascia panel that I can attatch the handle to?

You'll have to pardon my lack of knowing about SRS/air bag models, when I was buying my Discos I avoided all the fancy stuff, both my D1's are non-SRS, ABS, non-Cruise control, no sunroof, manual trans "S" models. Matter of fact I have never taken a lot of notice of up-spec dash facia.
I would imagine that there is nowhere to fix a grab handle on the dash facia that side if you have an airbag, there has to be room for it to deploy in a crash.
I guess the idea of attaching a handle to the pillar maybe is then best way to go about it though you may have to custom build a handle, I have had those inside pillar trims off to fix the "sagging" head liner, I think they pull/pry out a bit and then slide back toward you, away from the windscreen to remove. I also have thought about this the trim pulls off very easy start at top just be gentle.
Nothing really behind it to for a grab handle to bolt to something custom needs be made as I have been looking into it.
Though I do have the non air bag version still that grab handle the dash isn't that great to provide assistance getting and out.
Ithink I should for one to assist girlfriend getting and out.
I picked up a grab handle from an early model d1 before updated dash and thinking i might try to work out how to fix that there at some stage.
