AUTO TO MANUAL
My son,[kadine94] has stuffed his auto and wants a manual. He has just bought another d1 with a bit of rust, not a lot, partially dismantled with a 300tdi manual that needs the clutch replaced.Engine has not been run for about 3 years, running now.Picked it up for a grand
.Is it a big job for backyard landrover mechanics to put the manual pedal box and gearbox in?They are both 94 and identical except for colour and the new one is a 7 seater.Would like to swap engines also as we don't know when timing belt has been done on his .New one had new head about 3k ago and timing belt about 20 k ago.Looks like entire pedal assemblies just unbolt and swap over?Help appreciated.

Keen to hear the answer. I have a softdash rrc 300Tdi which I'd prefer as manual.

I'm doing the same on my rangie, pedal boxes swap over easy enough, I'd, give the box a once over before it goes in..

swap is a very simple deal indeed. as stated, check over the new box as the master cylinder seems to rust the manual pedal box out if leaking.
there is a round plug going to the auto trans that has two green/ wires and two other color. the green when connected light your backup lamps- the manual gearbox has same colors to connect to.
The other two in the plug, (orange maybe?) interrupt the start circuit and must be connected to start.
EDIT:
My US spec auto had a different mounting configuration for the trans/case than the manual. I preferred the auto version, and just retained it.
Keep the cab seal for the manual truck for the swap as well. console hole is a different shape, but indent is there for the other option.
