Glow plugs brand and lift pump

Hi All, thanks for all the valuable help.

My 95 Disco 1 300TDi has not had a glow plug change in the 13 years I've owned the old girl. New N70ZZ heavy duty twin batteries every 3 years. Starts first kick every time.

My past Landcruiser left me stranded at 200,000km with dead glow plugs.

Im based in West Australia, the coldest it gets in the desert is -5 celcius.

1) Do I ever need to change the Glow Plugs.

I can buy them ex UK for UKP14, or about AUD$25, If I elect to go ahead and change them is it a rotten hard job and can I snap one off costing hundreds to fix up my shoddy work?

In answer to your first question, yo only need to replace the glow plugs or a plug if in fact they become open circuit, i.e. you test them by disconnecting them individually from the glow plug supply wire and use a multimeter set on Ohms, place one probe on the battery earth and the other onto the threaded top of the glow plug, it should register a circuit.
Second question, it is not a hard job to unscrew each glow plug individually as required to replace it, you only need a neat fitting socket to slip over the top hexagon and gently ease the plug undone. Note:- they can sometimes be tight to undo if in fact they have been running a little loose in the head which allows a little bit of combustion gas "blow by", that will cause carbon deposits to accumulate in the bore that the plugs fit into.
When fitting new or replacements take care not to overtighten and break the plugs off in the head, follow the workshop manual tensioning guide, they do need to be tight enough to seal in the head. Gaz:cool:
