    Stroker 3.5

Seeing as though I have to rebuild this, what crank/rod/piston combo should I look for to build a stroker out of my spare hi comp 3.5 and indeed, is it worth it?
What kind of gain is available doing this or am I flogging a dead horse and just go for an LS1 and be done with it?
    Cheers.

IF you can find any one who still makes a stroker kit it will be upwards of $2500, no other factory rover V8 crank/rod combo will increase the stroke that is an easy fit.
A P76 4.4 crank can be re ground to fit but good luck finding a good one, stroker kits were pretty much dropped once the 4.6 came out.

Graeme Cooper stopped doing them before that even as he had several come back with ............You guessed it........SLIPPED SLEEVES.

It seems the extra stroke was enough to start the sleeves moving even though they were OK as 3.5s.

The stroker kits are still available, I enquired a few months ago when I was thinking about a power upgrade to the 101 and keeping things original. The $3,800 price tag i was quoted for kit put that idea to bed - I can get a good running Isuzu 4BD1 for that. And remember that price is before you do anything else.

The guy quoting me even said not to bother - said to drop a 4.6 in as it would be easier and cheaper.

I'd go the LS1 and use some of that money for the engineering. You'll still be in front both in dollar terms, power, longevity, parts availability and reliability.

    Thumbs up

The LS1 would be good, but the LS2 would be better,..6L, more power, & more importantly more torque, and there are now starting to be a few of these engines around, as there are of the other later model Holden 6L V8s.
So, I'd do my homework on what is involved in the ancilliary matters, electrics, cooling, gearbox fitting etc etc, to fit a Holden V8, and then get the best one you can.
    Good Luck, Pickles.

Here is one article about it.
Affordable Aluminum Buick / Rover Stroker Motor, by Kurt Schley

There is another web page out there that I thought I had saved but can't find, which had a list of various crank rod and piston combinations to use. Search Buick 215 instead of Rover 3.5 and you get a lot of info.

I think Triumph Rover Spares still sell the stroker kits but they aren't cheap

I am pretty sure Real steel in the UK does also.
the US cheap stroker sites I have seen use stuff that has never been sold in Australia so in the one si looked at anyway, it would be pretty difficult to source stuff here.
Imho the best source for a stroker may be a Buick 300 iron block as AFAIK it slots right in, but finding one may be a different matter.
