"Best" is Oil every 5k, filter every 10k. Ryco are my preference for filters.

Never change your oil and NOT the OIL FILTER, a TOTAL waste of time and oil, where people get this ridiculous idea from is beyond me.
5K changes if you are off road all the time and working hard, normal driving follow oil manufacturers recommendation, usually 10K, use Quality oil, BUT don't waste oil by not changing your oil filter every time you change the oil, Regards Frank.

Seems like everyone has plenty of money to waste, my truck has 400k on it full service history from new. Oil and filter every 10k. Use a good oil with high Zinc. Another factor do not forget the rest of the running gear, diff, box, props, and hubs.

Changing oil at 3,000 or 5,000km is a particularly expensive and pointless hobby.

Even small industrial engines with no oil filters can do 100 hours between changes.

    My 2 cents,

I would read the owners manual and or buy the service manual, maybe from the shop above & follow it religiously. It will address changes for arduous usage.

If i bought a vehicle with that mileage, i would change and flush everything, front to back & grease what can be greased

Then i would troll through the good oil section for advice on specific brands, oh do this first

You can buy good kits of complete filters either from the vendors here or from the UK
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

Most cars used for private purposes will fall into the manufacturers "Severe Use" definition as per the Owners Manual which generally means 5000km services or at times depending on the use even shorter intervals.

I'd invest in oil analysis long before I'd just dump oil at 5,000km. This is not a Toyota 2LT.

My 15 year diesel old work car has 20,000km normal change intervals.
My 26 year old 4BD1T had 16,000km normal change intervals.
