No worries Ron. I am new to this will work it out. have a good day - Gerry
Update as requested. Had my D1 into the repair shop again today. I pointed them in the direction of the Torque Converter/Flex Plate and the Harmonic Balancer as suggested by the very helpful guys on this forum. 1 hours labour costs informed me that the vibration could not be found. I am advised 2 times now to wait until the cause rears its ugly head and something breaks. I guess its time for pay the price and let the Landrover dealer have a go and see what they can find. Both repair centres are aware of the vibration and both have said, "Its a landrover and you have to accept that". Hmmm, I hope the Landie dealer doesnt say that to me!! Then I might be just a bit ****ed off hahahahahahahaha. Thanks guys - See ya - Gerry
I think you really need a landy specialist shop to look at it, to say its a landrover and they all do that is a cop out and bad one at that.
Hmm...
As loanrangie suggests...anyone know a specialist in Albany?
Does the vehicle increase in vibration when the engine is revved in neutral? Just wondering if the idle vibration has nothing to do with the vibration on road.
Don't know how limiting your disability is but if you can you might try probing under the vehicle and in the engine bay with a cheap auto version of the doctors stethoscope from Supercheap etc. You'll hear lots of different noises, but a fault is generally obvious.
Along the lines of DI5CO. What colour is the auto oil? When was the auto oil changed? Is the level correct - check when engine is running. Could the filter inside the sump be blocked? Ditto engine oil.
As spel1 suggests. Any sign of oil around any of the injectors or odd firing sequence (scope might be useful here).
Broken rocker shaft or valve issue.
I agree loanrangie. It is a cop out. 2 times!! I have discovered there is a landrover Dealer in Albany, so I will make a bee line for that. Thank you - Gerry
hi workingonit. I have discovered there is a landrover Dealer in Albany, so I will make a bee line for them. I will check those points mentioned above and see what I find. Thank you for your thoughts, time and effort. have a top day - Gerry
First of all I want to thank all involved in helping me try to solve this problem.:):)
I went to the Landrover Dealer and they too had a problem diagnosing the vibration. I was told that it would have to be a process of elimination and could be very costly. I was advised that it could cost many thousand of dollars to locate and repair.I offered $10 cash and a slab. I don't think he was all that impressed by my generous offer hahahaha. I made the decision to put up with the vibration as I am sure it will rear its ugly head and show the problem some time in the near future.
This decision was purely based on the possible costs involved. I just hope it doesn't show up when I am in the middle of a beach or river in an 'out of the way' place and some big butch fully decked landcruiser or similar takes great delight in rescuing me and ear bashing me about the virtues of his particular 4x4.:wasntme:
I am sure most of us know this scenario hahahahahahahaha. Its a touch embarrassing, but all part of our scene. Thats life!! Thanks again guys, I will live with the problem for now.
See ya all - Gerry (wedgetail37)
PS. I still have to do some more checking myself of all the points you guys mentioned. If by a huge amount amount of luck I discover the problem, I will post it here to help other Landrover owners in the future. Bye
Hope you have some luck as that type of problem can be a really annoying thing.
Just as a side I purchased an 84 Rangie which a bad vibration that made the rear coils resonate like hell at 100km/h then disappeared at around 110km/h.I spent weeks under the rear of the car looking for answers until I noticed that the front drive shaft had a nice fresh weld around the spline and sleeve. After removing the front shaft and doing a quick test run with the CDL locked I had found the culprit. I got the front shaft balanced and all was well.
I guess the message in all that is don't get too fixated on any one cause as the problem may be something you least expect ,in my case at the other end of the car.
Goodluck hope you get it sorted.
