    Diesel Auto v.s Manual

Hey guys this is my first post on here and I'm on the hunt for a diesel D1. Now I have had a fair look around on here but couldn't seem to locate any thing comparing Autos and manual. My main concerns are the differences in fuel economy between the two and the how laggy the Auto are, I have never owned an auto but having done a fair bit of long distance driving laterly in an auto I may be getting turned

So any info on this would be awesome and if there is already a thread on this could you share the link.

    Thanks Rowdando

Auto in the 300tdi is pretty good, but I would never take one over a manual.

What is a Tasmanian's idea of a long distance drive.

I would take an auto over a manual any day especially in a turbo diesel, very little lag and what little there is is soon forgotten when you have to change gears in a manual.

Haha yeah cant drive drive far in Tas without hitting water, but I'm currently working up on the "mainland" and have had to do a couple Brisbane to Melbourne and back first time in a manual, 2nd in an auto and the auto was a much more pleasant experience. As for fuel economy are they pretty much the same between the two??

Welcome to the forum. The obvious question for me is what are you going to use your Disco for ??.

Engines aside, my wife and I both have Discos and I would take her auto anyday of the week over my manual.

Well I'm looking at upgrading from my Suzuki sierra to something a bit more practical I plan to use it for camping and hitting up the tracks with my mates as well as my daily driver so pretty much an alrounder. I basically wanted a car that was worth putting money into that could do the bigger trips (ie. Cape, kimbilys and so on) in the future.

Owners manual has manual more economical around the city but auto more economical on the highway. Personally, I prefer the auto for my daily drive and regular country trips. Expect to get around 9.5l-10l/100km

    Also, welcome to the forum.
