Thread: Front wheel bearings

is this for a defender or disco? if disco 2 this is what i followed to do mine. though skipped a few steps. and cannot rememebr exactly how but it wasnt too hard.and i did not touch my brakes at all other than the caliper got moved out of the way. www.discovery2.co.uk / Front Wheel Hub / Bearing Assy

calliper needs to be removed.....unbolt and there should be enough length in the flex line not to have to remove the brake line itself therefore you will get away without bleeding the brakes......although its pretty straight forward to bleed them

disc comes with the hub..............just undo the hub nuts and it all slides off together

rare for these wheel bearings to wear out if they have been serviced regularly

For a disco 1, I just didnt think I would get the flex out of the rigid brake line, although on closer inspection I should be able to undo the bracket holding the rigid brake line, I am an idiot. Servicing regularly is the key word there, I think irregular service would be more accurate haha.

Sorry just remembered my brackets are slotted.

I have not looked at the setup properly so im not sure how it is, but i have a vibrating sound coming from the right front of my car. when i took it to replace the IP i asked the mechanic to investigate. turns out that the front bearings were seized completely and had to replace the whole stub axle.

he said the seals are a bit of a funny setup and after a bit of wear water gets in there. i remember when i got stuck in mud on a river crossing and not long after that the noise started. mustv washed away all the grease and seized them.

lesson i learnt. regular maintenance is important.
