Not my experience. My 95 ES has a separate fob with a chip. Locksmiths I've asked can't fix it. Have to go to a LR specialist. Its a rolling remote alarm to be harder to steal, I believe.

Well I've determined that getting a spare key cut is the easy part. Its the remote that that the problem and the expensive part. I've only got one of those and to get from LR is like taking a 2nd mortgage. Not sure about aftermarket.... Does anyone if its electrically possible to just bypass the immobilizer so u can still just the car with the key but no remote fob?

2nd mortgage for $100 or so?

No need for a dealership if you've checked with them already.
Remote Alarm 315mhz, Discovery 1, Defender, Freelander - All Four X 4 Spares
and you can even re-program a 2nd hand one too if you like.

Yours is a bit dearer but they too can be programmed without the need for a dealer (it's the same remote used on the last of the RRC & they had a procedure the owner could follow so I assume the D1 ES is similar).

Yeah, I tried just using my key (left Remote Door Fob in the House) to unlock and start the car, but w/o success. It unlocked the car, turned the accessories on but that was it. Went to start the engine and nothing......

The batteries in the Remote Door Fobs.... anyone know the type/size of battery? Probably would be good to have a spare inside the car just in case....

Do you have the EKA (Emergency Key Access) code to get around this?

It's used to bypass the alarm system in case of a remote failure.
If you have an owners handbook, the details are in there.

It's basically a code that is inputted using the key in the door lock. Turn one way so many times, then the other, repeat again.

Any LR dealer will have access to the code but you may need to provide proof of ownership first.

    Some info here too:
Land Rover Emergency Key Access Code
It takes a dealer 5sec to look up the code so they shouldn't charge you.
