V8 fuel usage question, hard to believe

Hey guys, i filled the tank for the first time in my life last night and went for a drive. I ended up doing 385km round trip and only on half a tank.. I thought the v8 would chew more fuel then that, its only a 70L tank ( i think).
Are these average figures (i also have a callasped rear pinion bearing)?

    Your fuel gauge is wrong.

The D1 tank is 89 litres - the 385km use sounds about right BUT half on the gauge is not half in the tank - you will get no where near 385 for the second half.

Like my RRS, half in the tank is a needle width above half on the gauge.

On the trip you described you should be getting around 14l/100km or a bit less (better consumption). The V8 gives better fuel consumption than the slightly larger capacity 6 cylinder Toyotas and Nissans.

    Cheers

Ill have to find out, ill keep driving it until it hits E. It has had a rebuild, timing chain and rings were done, the heads were only recoed no porting, 31ats, snorkel, 2" lift and bull bar, exhaust, new fuel pump and sender unit and an auto (the only things i can think of the will effect usage).

I was shocked myself, i fueled up in Buddina and drove all the way to palm beach, then back.

    I put about $70 (50L) in from about 1/4 to 1/2, i cant remember.

means nothing until you refill it and do the maths , and then do it again and again a handful of times and average the results.
