my tacho(300 tdi) went intermittent but only lasted about a week.
It would just drop to zero for a brief moment then back up.
I never got the time to check the connection, but in about that week, the alternator charging(brushes or reg?. ... don't know) finally packed it up.

All these discos are giving me a heart attack!

Most of drivers seats at wreckers are cactus, ie seat diaphragm U/S. you might bet lucky and canabilise a passenger seat to steal the fabric from. The lumber support hole might need some sewing though.
Well I did find one today that was quite good but I have not seen a seat mount like the one that this seat was mounted to. It looked like a bodge job by some one. The disco must have been one of the very first four doors as the interior was like the two door ones. So I did not bother with it.

    Hi Val,

Cut and spliced in a new section of wire, cleaned the spade terminal, protected with heat proof covering. Tacho has only gotten worse and sometimes hardly works.

I wish it was only the wire, but doesn't seem to be in this case.

Trying Roverlord for a replacement alt.

    Best regards - Richard

The weather has been phenomenally nice down south in WA so i took the disco for some outings this weekend.
Camped over near Warren River, also camped over at Waychinicup River and did some fishing, and also took the TDi up through the Yeagarup Dunes...

The Disco had no trouble with the short climb up onto the dunes locked in 3rd low.
As a reward for the Disco i fitted a new Delphi lift pump, new gasket on the crank case breather hose drain pipe, oil change, fuel filter change, air filter change, and valve adjust (which were way out!!). I could swear this morning on the way to work the Tdi has a little bit more power after adjusting the valves... Wishful thinking or the fact that the super cold morning air through the turbo gives a few HP by itself.

Anyone got any tips for catching bream? Didn't catch a single one at Waychinicup but i know they are there!

I have had fantastic results with unweighted fresh prawns used whole in the Sharks bay area when targeting the silver bream in that area.
If you buy the smaller sized prawns (3"-4") in the 5kg boxes they work out to be cheaper than the crappy coral prawns that are of dubious quality that are sold at most of the bait outlets and the plus side is that if you tire of catching bream you can always eat the bait

try fishwrecked forum. there was something with bream regarding just before peak of high tide and just before peak of low tide, so basically as the tides are moving. can't remember exactly what it was though. i think as it's nearing high tide peak from memory is best time. also just before sunset. caught a few on swan river but at random times. not sure what the tides were doing.

have you got multimeter? tried to see if charging ok? maybe fault at tacho end or elsewhere in wiring. i would have thought if charging ok then not alternator issue but i'm not too sure about the alt internals so could be wrong. mine is jumping at the moment but it's charging properly. alternator is about 3 years old and its an expensive magneti marelli one.

Did the LHF wheel bearings today.
Had this annoying whirring noise for a while, impossible to trace it to any specific item.
Last night got louder on the cruisey run up the freeway, hit the fast righthander and louder again. Ah! LHS bearing .. after the righthander is a fast left hander .. whirring noise much less .. almost gone .. definitely a LH bearing.

So did the front today .. but I guessed wrong!

Have to do the rear left tomorrow(or Friday) now.

Im guessing it was the right front. Should always change both sides at the same time IMHO.
