Power line then disappears into a conduit and runs down the DS chassis rail and seems to go to the tow plug. OK so it seems the case that this power lead was installed for the tow plug not the fridge. Oh whats that.. a broken wire - poke it with a screw driver and it shorts/sparks to the steel rear bar. Disconnect lead from aux battery. Check fuse again - now blown. OK so I theorise that the fridge is powered by splicing into this line - that it is not working because of the broken wire. Not that Einsteiian.
Had to take tow bar off to get enough room to do this..not happy with the wiring location/clearance at all..but today is a band aid job.
Clean ends and solder the wire, tape it up. Fit new fuse - doesnt blow. Refit power lead. Check fridge - works.
Refit tow bar - oh one of the female ends of one of the mounting bolts has dissappeared into the depths of the chassis. Great. ****ed about for a while fishing that out with a bit of wire. Eventually got it. Positioned the wires as safely as possible..but a job for another day is to clean it all up, relocate with proper conduit with proper clearance.
I have been lucky this has not happened while on a trip. 22yo cars and various jobs done by various auto leccys - not a great recipe.

haha no at least I had enough nouse to check the power plug outlet for the fridge first...

I thought I was up for a vacuum pump, then found a hose that had been tapped into the booster line had come adrift!
One zip tie and a few minutes, problem solvered!
Now that I've saved $500 , I need to figure out what to spend it on!

Changed the filter in the auto trans, what a pain in the arse that was. Done now and the trans feels like it is shifting smoother but could be a placebo effect.
Currently setting up some draws in the rear, found some rust under the carpet in the back, nothing major so a quick hit with a wire bush and some kill rust hopefully has got rid of it for a while.

Replaced my power steering pump and front engine cover at the weekend, changed out the last bearing in the pulley system whilst I was at it, steering is lovely and light, and the whole thing now squeaks when the engine is running.

New belts going on at the weekend will hopefully fix that otherwise I'm at a loss

Got the new belts on yesterday, serpentine and aircon, still a bit of a squeak but I'm hoping it will "work in with wear " and all will go back to the normal sound of the mighty 300tdi.

If it doesn't there maybe a question coming

Replaced O ring on oil thermostat housing ( old one was flat and hard causing the leak)
Changed engine oil and filter.
Ordered a replacement vacuum pump...might fix current one and keep for spare.
Belts are due for replacement.

Preping the 3Dr for rego. Side brake lights don't work. I've found out that this will be the case if there are no brake light globes in it. :lol2:

Replace globes, lights still don't work. Test everything with multimeter and continuity testing, bit of butt scratching...

Turns out the ignition needs to be switched on when testing the brake lights. :banana:


Chatting to my mum afterwards. First thing she says is... are there brake globes in it. :Rolling:

Rebuilt the pivots and new front wheel bearings on both sides, new rear sway bar rubbers and links for rego last week. All looked good. drove into Wellington and the motor was covered in oil! Back home to find the cause. Coming from the front oil seal. Pulled it down and found that the timing belt pulley flange (lip on the front) had separated from the gear (will add photos tomorrow) woodruff key was a bit flogged out. Replaced it all with new parts and put it all together only for it not to start. Investigated why and found that fly wheel had crept from the timing pin :(. All off again. It's going now, but talk about being tired! Just changed insulin and I have labyrinthitis (my head is spinning and I have NO balance). What a couple of days! Currently sitting back having a coffee to be followed by a long hot shower!
