Did manage to fit another temperature gauge sender. A excellent placement for the sender if you where a sadistic b###ard. Was going to fit a oil pressure sender for a after market gauge. But most likely will have to pencil in a week of the road so I can pull every thing apart to get access. So this will have to wait. :mad: As posted earlier I had replaced the heater hose. It was a old piece I had lying around. It had gone hard with age but got me out of trouble. Replaced that hose with some new hose, the only easy fix I can see on that motor. New dual gauge won`t of course work until I get the oil sender sorted.

Replaced rear A arm and bushes. Tackle the front in the next couple of days.

Discovered my brake fluid reservoir was low...

Damn this car. Time to start searching for ANOTHER leak.

replaced the AFM, and found so many broken vacuum lines

hopefully that will improve my shocking fuel economy (currently 40L tank = 110kms)

next on the cards - inspect advnce and get the LPG hooked up again

Well it started yesterday. Have been in the process of fitting a after market oil pressure gauge. Of evil bay I got a adapter, had waited three weeks for it to arrive. Finally turned up and it won`t work, so plan B is a banjo bolt and some making of a adapter.
To day I finally found the rattle and what was most likely causing the wobbles at speed. The right front shock absorber top rubber bushes where cactus. Went to remove the shock mount from the spring mount only to find that some Gorilla in the past had over tightened the two outer nuts and stripped them and the stud/ bolts. So removed them with a cutting disk. A quick trip to Super Cheap and the bushes where replaced. Tightened up the two inner nuts holding the shock mount to the spring mount. Then a bit of bush mechanics. As I plan to replace the shock absorbers sooner than later I tack welded the outer portion of the shock mount to the spring mount about in front of where the bolts would have been. So later when I do the two inch lift I will replace the cut bolts.

When my AFM crapped it I saw 42l/100km. It was shocking, now back around 20/100 (mostly 4wding) so to be expected.

How much of a task was it to replace the joint? I've got a new one sitting on my desk waiting to go in.

Thought I would share the story of a cheap $500 (with a full tank of fuel)tdi I bought in Darwin nov last year.
The plan being to do up for the move back to the central coast towing our 22' van leaving around end of march.
A new 2nd hand front bumper and 2 mirrors it looked ok to visit the MVR as it hadnt been reg in Nt so needed a full inspection, failed with tie rod ends leaking rear wheel seal and no rear brakes in the mean time mate had picked a D3 with a blown motor so working on it to have finished before we left it ended up march before I got back to the tdi then found out i couldn't get it reinspected till 3 weeks finally got rego on the thursday suppose to be leaving monday. Drove around for a couple days all seemed good, hooked up the van to take for new tyres and it was over heating in a couple km found the radiator wasn't doing its job, no new radiator in Darwin found a good one in the wreckers and was happy with the cooling system.
When I had the van on (have been living in the van for last 6 years so was a little over loaded) the springs wasn't holding up too well after loading my tool boxes in the back the old girl was on the bumpers, was able to buy a set of new hd springs. We hit the road
No problems till between Daly waters and the 3 ways. Huge head winds and heat of the day over heating again this time thermo fan free wheeling too much I locked it up and had no more cooling problems till we got here and unhooked the van.
Driving in heavy traffic brought the over heating problem back again even after fitting a new fan clutch
Pulling off the head showed quite a few cracks so I shouted it a new head and its going like a rocket. Sydney and back this morning with no sign of getting hot
I suspected it may have had a head problem when we left Darwin but was surprised it towed the van so well but couldn't take 50k of city driving
For the trip it averaged 14.9mpg 19.9l per 100 which I thought wasn't bad the D1 V8 we got rid of wasn't doing that

Rebuilt the brake master cylinder today. I know it was leaking from the rubber seals connecting to the reservoir, but figured I might as well rebuild the whole thing and not chance it. Everything looked in good shape once pulled apart, so I probably could've gotten away with just the $16 rubber grommets/seals but the $95 for the whole kit was worth the peace of mind and knowing I won't have to work on it again. Still seems to be some air in the line, but I'll tackle that tomorrow along with new radiator hoses.

ordered a new dizzy and rotor, on my way to sort out my misfire. Its a constant misfire, hopefully ill track it down soon. Started after i gave the dizzy and rotor a clean.
