What did you do with or to your Disco today

I wound up buying a new tank from Melbourne Bunnings and having it filled at a servo just down the road. They went ahead and filled the other one too :angel:, so now I have two full gas bottles. Using the out of date but one first so that when I get back from this trip it'll be empty and can be re-tested and certified (didn't have time for this before the trip, which is what started the whole issue).

Leaving the Flinders Ranges today. Hopefully finding out the condition of the Oodanata track today and if all is well heading out on that tomorrow. So far Snafu has been taking the trip really well and done surprisingly well on some of the off road bits we've seen so far even as loaded up as it is.

Started yesterday with the fitting of a bull bar. That went well and now the winch will go on. Today was shocks and springs. Silly me did not consider the disco may have already been raised as it is bog standard in any other way. Fitted a front spring and shocker. Measured hub center to wheel arch and compared it to the other side and it was the same. Replacement springs where meant to be +50mm . Checked removed spring to replacement spring and the old one was only a coil shorter. Was not going to put the old one back in so have replaced the other front spring and shocker. Did a sneaky with the shocks. Did not remove the top shock mount. Fed the shock absorber in from the bottom as I fitted the springs. Have only replace the rear shocks as the disco has heavy duty rear springs already fitted.

Fitted a new viscous fan clutch this morning, run to work was definitely running cooler by about half a needle width below horizontal.

Walked 4 blocks to a autoparts store to buy jumper leads so i could jump aux battery to start battery, some idiot left his lights on while parked for 2hrs :mad:

Think its time for a new start battery.......

I reckon you could have just moved a few cables around to do that .

Even though I have a set of jumper cables in the car, this situation is why I chose an isolator with an override switch that can be used to recharge/jump the primary battery off the auxiliary one. Cost me $8 more than the same brand standard isolator which was $30 or so on FleaBay.

About to finish up the trip. In Coober Pedy tonight and hope to get down to Adelaide in the next day or two. Snafu has been pretty well behaved, other than the speedo acting up twice last night and the motor cutting out once on the first day when the wire to the fuel solenoid became disconnected because the wiring loom wasn't secured (diagnosed, reconnected, secured with zip ties, and back on the road in under 5min with no drama since). She took the Oodanata Track with no fuss (due to the weather that got us stuck in Oodanata for 3 days, it was a bit messy in places on the way to Marla).

Got a neat little solenoid doodad for that. Flick a switch,and Hey Presto! That's when I find the Aux battery is flat as well..:censored:

If i was stuck further away, i prob could have, or just swapped batteries over. Have jumper leads to keep in the car now....so will never need them again :p

Mite rig up a solenoid to do the push button self jumpstart thing tho....the basic Narva VSR i have dosn't have that feature.

Disco does have a new start battery now tho, even tho it tested fair with their load tester.

Went outside to get back into the long overdue head gasket/timing belt job on Dave. The rain was horizontal and snow threatened. Came back inside and rang Adrian about the D2 instead. It is time to build a shed!!! Or move.
