    Replaced black coolant expansion tank

    Hi,

It has been a while since my last post (a lot has been happening). I finally replaced the black expansion tank with a new white one from Roverlord (thankyou Mario and Heather) along with a new expansion tank cap. The old black tank lasted 19 years but finally developed a small split in the in the seam at the front. It has been something that I've been meaning to do but never got to until now. Also I took the opportunity to wire in the EMS CLD screws and enabled that.

The driver seat squab is going so I've one coming from Exmoor trim and will do that next weekend hopefully.

Good luck with it. it's a job worth doing and transforms the car afterwards!

Took me 1 hr to do it from start to finish, and that was about 15mins trying to figure out how to fix the broken lumbar adjuster webbing(in the end I used staples and duct tape).

Word of caution if you haven't done it before too:
(I've never done leather so this applies to cloth trim)
the seat base has two longitudinal(front to back of car direction) seams and there will be two plastic tabs sewn onto some cloth extensions on the underside.
These slot into the longitudinal slits in the foam base.
When you inspect your new foam you will notice two long slits between the main bum base and the two diagonal thigh supports.
Those plastic tabs slide in through those slits to keep the seat base fabric taught against the shape of the foam.
Without these the seat base fabric will be all loose and creased on the base and look ugly.
The fabric will now be fragile, and mine sheared very easily(with me knot knowing what they were actually there for!
It was one of those moments when I realised what had just happened when one sheared off completely.
The other is only half torn.
One day I'll get it all off again and try to sew it back together .. but it's not an urgent job.
To save yourself completely tearing them apart make sure you compress the foam heavily to pass them through the slits for both the un-trim and re-trim operation.

    hope that helps.

ps, I just changed the oil in my 300 Tdi ... .. oil filter location!

    Busy arvo..

Fitted second battery and done most of the wiring.

All tested and wiring has no issues.
Connected under bonnet, Anderson plug. Will get some more wire and put another plug in the back for my fridge and any other item used there, another under dash for the inverter to charge laptop.

One question tho, anyone can tell me where a good connection to the ignition is located. Saves me going through the wiring if someone don't mind telling me. Looking for a circuit that can take a bit of loading(even tho the solenoid only needs 780ma), i prefer a bit of extra tolerance.

If you are talking about a feed from the ignition there is a spare terminal in the fuse box.

Thank you, Debacle... Funny how I had seen it before but couldnt remember til I looked...

Finally finished with the wiring tonight, and lo an behold, spottie has decided to pack it in, both switches, one on light and the remote one, both stuffed up..

Play with tomorrow. I always thought that when one gets over 50, your meant to stop playing with things, oh well always been an odd one..
