What did you do with or to your Disco today

Well since I'm down to only 2 months on my visa and I'm still waiting for my starter motor to show up so I can get the car going again, I think I've settled on trying to sell the car here in Perth (once I've got the starter replaced) and flying home early (be nice to get to see my family for Christmas for a change). I don't reckon at this point I could make it to Cairns/Queensland, sell the car, and manage to get back to Kansas before Christmas.

So if anyone's in the market for a good deal on a Disco let me know. I won't be advertising though until I've replaced the starter and made sure everything else is in order.

Connected under bonnet, Anderson plug. Will get some more wire and put another plug in the back for my fridge and any other item used there, another under dash for the inverter to charge laptop.

One question tho, anyone can tell me where a good connection to the ignition is located. Saves me going through the wiring if someone don't mind telling me. Looking for a circuit that can take a bit of loading(even tho the solenoid only needs 780ma), i prefer a bit of extra tolerance.

Wont be for a couple of weeks yet...

I have to do some more work... I also have to rearrange the existing wiring for the spotties, then I can protect and cover all the wiring running across in front of radiators...

Still cleaning up crap, wiring problems, and bad workmanship...

Still, after 30+ yrs, cant get over how people can make something look pretty and yet f all works... Finding adjustments so far out, I am amazed the landy starts, let alone run... Electrics wired up without any sense to Y it was wired that way, and stuff not working, that would have taken 2 minutes to do properly...

Some parts replaced but the things that should have been done, just left..
At the moment, I got to get my laptop talking to the ECU and check for issues I cant physically see and then make a list of other things to fix...

Once I can trust this bus to go 1,500 k's towing a car trailer, I will go get my 4wd I rolled last year.. That will be a test for the Landy.. Old bus I rolled was(yes big WAS) a 60 series cruiser... I will admit, the roof stayed up, even after 4 attempts to crush it into my head...

Then I can raid things that survived the rollover and put on the Landy...

PS, my son has banned me from owning anything but a V8, seems that 6's and 4's always crash when I drive, unless its over 10 litres...:cool:

Today, not much. Drilled out the broken bolt from the exhaust manifold that broke when i was taking the turbo off. Went down to the bolt place, came back and it was raining. I blame global cooling.
Yesterday was better. But I posted that over at Technical Chatter. Suffice to say that I found I had little boost, found the turbo shaft had around 3mm play, which is fine because I had a new turbo core to play with.
Tomorrow sees it going back together. If it's not raining. Which it will be.

Went and cleared a few trees off the Eastern fence line so I can repair or replace most of it... Disco did well, towing logs weighing a few tonnes, into a place where I can burn them next year.. Biggest log, Marri, 3 ft diameter, 15 ft long, and it left a 6 inch furrow for about 200 ft, going up hill.. Happy with Disco, for that...

But then I checked the boundary fence and thought I could sneak across creek rather than go back around(100 metres instead of 2 k's), well didnt go well.. I got bogged, 1 ft deep tracks and sinking... lots of tree branches and quick digging out the mounds in front of wheels, I eventually got out..

I need muddies on this little bus...But I must admit, I would still be stuck if it was my old cruiser...She didn't like that crossing at all, in fact, didn't like it in summer.. Mind you, it is below a spring, so never dries out...

Finally decided to finish sorting out a second battery and my winch. Have had the second battery in place for about a week. The winch has been in place for some time. Geeze the disco engine bay is a tight space to put any thing. My disco has the 3.9 on gas so does not leave much room for extras. Like a game of tetras or those old puzzles where you had the different shape blocks and had to fit them in. Blind persistence finally one the day though. Had to ditch the original washer tank for a couple of generic bottles. That freed up a couple of square meters ( ok maybe not that much, but those original washer tanks are huge) In front of the new washer tanks I could then fit the power steering reservoir, the winch solenoid and the winch wireless remote receiver. The dual battery smart relay has been fitted near the main battery. A small five fuse fuse block has been fitted next to the second battery. I used one hundred and forty amp tinned copper wire to connect the battery's. Got this fro J car. As i don`t have a big crimper I soldered all the connectors, which I believe is a better connection any way. Tomorrow I will make the three winch leads and finish hooking up the wireless receiver. My winch solenoid is a Tigers 11 one and it is a earth the solenoids to activate them. So have to fit relays for the remote to work.
