    Question

Finally got around to install a EGT Gauge with the Probe "Pre-Turbo".... also in the middle of installing a BOOST gauge as well. I assume teeing into the hose that goes around to the Injector pump is OK?

With the BOOST Gauge, I took it one of the local LONG hills we have nearby and with the pedal flat to the floor the EGT's got to 718`C before I had to turn around. I then went back and did it again but just with normal driving and the EGT's got to around the 620`C mark... For general normal driving, it seems to sit in the 400>500 mark.... I assume this is normal??

BTW: At What TEMP do people let their EGT's get down to before turning off the engine? 200`C or 250`C or 300`C ??

Scared the **** out of me

    Hi all,

There's no way pic's will help with this story.

So I'm driving along in the Disco 1 V8 and notice the auto trans shifter and plastic surround is getting darn hot,......that hot it would scald you in places.

So I do the internet search about the situation and find all sorts of theories about hot auto transmissions, hot exhaust gases collecting in the transmission tunnel, etc.

What is going on?, I ask myself! I didn't do that big a botch job when I serviced the auto trans recently? Surely not!?

So after a week or two of worrying, thinking and considering I disconnected the 2 globes that light up the transmission selector mechanism.

Yep! Hot little globes that in the confines of a sealed selector mechanism in an Australian summer, heat up the surrounding plastic to a very high level.

Problem solved, but no light on the selector mechanism at present.

    Happy Australia Day

300TDI - Dragged free a bogged minimix concrete truck that had the front wheels stuck in sand up to the bumper. Rear wheels didn't have traction on the bitumen as it was a bit hung up in the centre. Had to hurry as it was costing me by the minute on the job after the allowed time. The driver was a bit dubious but pleased enough when he was clear. Thats the second time I've used my heavy recovery chain in sand this year.

Found out that my rear demistor makes the radio stop working. Also does anyone know where the dog light wires run. I don't have fog lights but the switch on the dash is there and lights up so I want to hi Jack it for spotties or a rear light.
