Been looking for some second hand Roofbars for mine but gave up and found some on eBay. I couldn't afford the Name Brands but the ones off eBay I thought I'd take the chance and see how I go.... I was a bit concerned of the overall height but after getting them and installing them I'm quite happy with the overall look. The Factory bars take away a bit of the height issue I reckon..... I've positioned them in that the RoofRack that we bolt onto the Prado when touring will bolt straight to it + I don't have to re-position the Awning Supports when swapping between vehicles. This way I save a bit of $$.

Winch; Spotties & LED Light bracket all installed now too.... Things left are to make or buy some good strong sliders instead of the crappy ARB steps and do some wiring in the rear cargo area + add some interior lighting in the rear too.....

Then all that is needed is to give the Disco a good Test offroad to see if it can do what I want it to do w/o breaking anything (CV's; Axles) ..... If I do, then it will be back to the drawing board to see what I can do to prevent those breakages happening next time.... I'm hoping that the medium to hard offroad stuff I probably end up doing will not cause any breakages..... The hard stuff I have my little Zook for....

Guys your making me want to buy that alloy roof cage i saw for a discovery on ebay for $150! Stop it, i cant afford it right now!

EDIT: This one in case anyone else is interested in it or if you know if it will fit on a D1 with the stock roof bars.

Well today i tackled the gearbox leaks that i had. Took most of my sunday morning. Everything was leaking where the oil cooler lines meet and the dip stick too. SO! Drained the oil, took the trans sump off (which required me to take the support bracket off too) removed every nut and bolt that was leaking or looked to be leaking or could leak and thread taped them and new washer and the grey maxed it all up and put it back together. While i was under there i found a sticker for a place called A&B Automotive Re-manufacturing. The date and product code where missing but its got a phone number so ill give them a call on Monday as I'm curious as to what has been done to it.

So then to test time, everything back on, oil in and around the block we go! Come back! BUGGER! 1 plug is still leaking but only slightly. So next weekend ill find a nice hill to park it on and chock the wheels and hopefully i can pull it out without having to drain the oil again.

Also the bolt that i put into my transfer box because the other one was missing is still leaking but i think i have found another bolt that i will try soon next weekend too.

Finally found a use for a set of rubber mudflaps I've had in the shed for six years....

Like they were made for the job

Also installed the Motson auxiliary batter set up in the Disco's cargo area.

I have a small lead acid battery in the case at present, but will be installing a dual purpose sealed AGM in the near future for long term use. Needs to be a deep cycle/cranking type as it will be a back up starting batter in the unlikely even the near new yellow top Optima carks it. Routed the cables through the firewall grommet on the drivers side, behind the kick panel and under front and rear drivers side door threshold plates. On the drivers side floor found the dreaded rust in the usual place. Managed to poke two small holes while removing the loose stuff prior to treating with rust converter. Not structural so sealed it up and refitted the cover plate.

The Projecta case is wired with an Anderson plug for charging and connecting to a set of jumper leads I keep in my tool box.

Yeah, I think years of working on and riding motorbikes have made me a bit anal about messy wires and cables 'cause they are often visible

Yea, i wrapped mine with electrical tape previously but its not so good. Also where you mounted the controller in the engine bay the previous owner of mine has an after market cruise control which dosnt work anymore so i might remove that soon and fill the spot with something else.

Repaired my vacumm pump doing the nod where you replace the revits with bolts. I also added heaps of 515 gasket goo. I am also in the middle of fitting my 50mm flairs which I will post pictures of shortly very excited.

So after a nice long day, Finally got the front flares on my 1998 Disco! Here are the pics.

Started by removing the inner wheel guard, not to go on ever again.

    Marking up what to cut.

    WOOHOO!

    Isnt it lovely.

Now to decide if i want 32" or 33" tyres. Also have to get some 16x7 -25mm offset rims too.

Now for the rears i have a few questions that ill ask over in my flares thread. Which you can see here. Saves filling this thread with un related content!

    Question

Rotated Tyres for the 1st time and caught a glimpse of the rear Discs and I then checked the condition of the pads..... all in pretty poor condition..... Ordered new Discs and Pads and replaced them yesterday.... Was bit concerned as mine has the ABS brakes and I've never had anything to do with ABS b4, but all went well.... Interesting to how strong some of the parts are made and how some parts I thought were a little on the small side..... The Axles don't look much bigger/thicker than my little zook.... Can see how this possibly would be an issue with bigger rubber &/or Lockers.....

Replaced the xyz switch on the D2 - 72,000kms after previous replacement.
Must pull old switch apart for inspection.
