Had to engage transfer only 3 times, all on steep sand dunes, but never lowered the tyres...
I must admit, the disco does a good job for a stock 4wd....
Fun and games for the others, the best man has a beautiful Patrol, but he thought he would take a short cut to get to camp and set up, he got within 20 k's of camp and went down in 4 feet of water(his old tyres where taller), albiet, the groom had to get a tractor to go rescue him... In fact the tractor had to lift one end just to pull him out... Thus the alternate route was another 30 k's... Landrover driver to the rescue next day, I cleaned all the electrics and went through the Patrol and got most of it working...
Then next day the front wheel bearing (Drivers side) decided the swim was too much and it collapsed about 20k's from camp, Patrol nursed back to camp...
Landrover driver again to the rescue and yesterday I went back down with new bearings, gen set, grinder and tools, to patch up Patrol enough to drive the 100k's to my home...
Its amazing how Groom, with a 105 cruiser, thought by allowing me to go ahead over a steep dune would give them pleasure watching me get stuck. So sad for them, the disco went over with transfer unlocked, but they had to use 4wd with low tyre pressures...
Now all they can say is I am a sook because I drove a landy that has a smooth ride in the rough... I know that the Patrol is rough, this morning I could hardly walk after driving that home, but I do want the engine, its got some balls...
I wish I could get a new disco1 but I cant so I will have to choose wisely next year when I go for a new bus. The disco may have to stay just so I have something with ability when down the coast...
Oh for those that want to know, we camped at Moores hut at Coodamurrup beach and travelled down past Fish Creek nearly to the Broke inlet sand bar on the Southern Ocean... This is WA south coast, between August and Albany, just east of Windy Harbour...
As for the Bucks weekend, well I didnt get a hangover but I am nearly sober now...
