    Just a cheap ebay job.

Mounted on inner guard just under brake master cyl. I have relays, a fuse box and air compressor also mounted in the general area, so was running a little short on room.

Some rubber mounts that raise it an inch mite make it easier to mount, further down the inner guard.

Finally gave her a service. Gave it some engine cleaner, new oil and filter (had to use Ryco, had a Mahle one sent from well known UK supplier and ended up having wrong size thread. Found out when i tried to screw it in) fuel filter, sedimenter clean, checked valves all good still.

Insulated the wiring for my coolant temperature sensor and engine saver. Was all soft from heat of the head and giving erratic readings when warm, so i put corrugated insulation all over it. Works perfect now. Same as oil pressure, the readings would be jumpy at times, but with new oil gone back to normal.

Cleaned out IC. Was little bit dirty but not too bad, made no difference but I feel better. Welded a spanner to the body work trying to undo nut for PS reservoir and arced the secondary battery + with the body.

Attended to some rattles. The easier ones.

Wanted to change the shockie rubbers but ran out of time.

    Runs very nicely.

Coupla days late getting online, but tested the change of tyres from 255/75 to 235/75, down the coast on the weekend at a bucks do...

Had fun embarrassing my friends who rubbish the old disco...

Had to engage transfer only 3 times, all on steep sand dunes, but never lowered the tyres...

I must admit, the disco does a good job for a stock 4wd....

Fun and games for the others, the best man has a beautiful Patrol, but he thought he would take a short cut to get to camp and set up, he got within 20 k's of camp and went down in 4 feet of water(his old tyres where taller), albiet, the groom had to get a tractor to go rescue him... In fact the tractor had to lift one end just to pull him out... Thus the alternate route was another 30 k's... Landrover driver to the rescue next day, I cleaned all the electrics and went through the Patrol and got most of it working...

Then next day the front wheel bearing (Drivers side) decided the swim was too much and it collapsed about 20k's from camp, Patrol nursed back to camp...

Landrover driver again to the rescue and yesterday I went back down with new bearings, gen set, grinder and tools, to patch up Patrol enough to drive the 100k's to my home...

Its amazing how Groom, with a 105 cruiser, thought by allowing me to go ahead over a steep dune would give them pleasure watching me get stuck. So sad for them, the disco went over with transfer unlocked, but they had to use 4wd with low tyre pressures...

Now all they can say is I am a sook because I drove a landy that has a smooth ride in the rough... I know that the Patrol is rough, this morning I could hardly walk after driving that home, but I do want the engine, its got some balls...

I wish I could get a new disco1 but I cant so I will have to choose wisely next year when I go for a new bus. The disco may have to stay just so I have something with ability when down the coast...

Oh for those that want to know, we camped at Moores hut at Coodamurrup beach and travelled down past Fish Creek nearly to the Broke inlet sand bar on the Southern Ocean... This is WA south coast, between August and Albany, just east of Windy Harbour...

As for the Bucks weekend, well I didnt get a hangover but I am nearly sober now...

    Window regulators

About a fortnight ago I replaced the nearside front window regulator. It had broken just before winter and was stuck in the up position so I wasn't rushed to fix it. Last night the driver's side regulator has gone out in sympathy but unlike the passenger window the driver's side won't stay up . I've gaffer taped the window up and ordered a replacement regulator from Heather and Mario. Has to happen when there is heavy rain around Sydney last night

This will be next week's job!

I took the family down that way a few years ago in our road van, which inspired me to look for a decent 4x4 to get around down there (very limited roads to see the amazing scenery)
Now I didn't go looking for one but the cheap price and 7 seats got me the Disco 1... now I am converted! they are proper 4x4 and while the v8 has no real power to be inspired by the ease by which they tackle the terrain makes me smile on the inside... and laugh at all highly modded patrols smashing around trying to get all that horsepower into some form of usable forward motion!
I used to laugh at my mates that owned Land rovers... but joke was on me!

Thanks for sharing, now I want to get out there!

Might have been better to get the Mahle filter from Mario, at least you know it'll fit.

    Long Overdue

Just bled the brake fluid on my 93 Discovery. 2 bleed holes were fully plugged and needed drilling out (some hard white gunk blocking it) the sludge that came out was horrifying. took 2 full bottles of fresh fluid to get it clean.

not being familiar with the vehicle, I assumed it stopped slowly because it's heavy lump. turns out I was close to not stopping at all!

the blackish greenish slop is now free-flowing clear yellow.
Note: I didn't disconnect the battery to do this. lol

Gold Wraith. Recommend locking the TC every time though. Poor centres don’t like the loads unlocked when it shifts front to rear etc and can easily fail.
