Thread: What did you do with or to your Disco today

Changed intake manifold today.
My spare has gas injection so wanting gas back again.
Got the manifold in after a bit of work getting it around the rocker cover gaskets.
Dropped a damn bolt into the intakes hahahahah.
With its washer on it. Expected the worst but a magnet arm thingamajigger got it out no problem at all.

Did change out some rear bushes yesterday. Damn what a difference the rear bushes can make to a drive.
Rest of the day off, its friday after all so drinking time.
Will do more Tomorrow as every day is a working on car day for me and my disco.

Finished off the gas and manifold.
Just tuning the gas to run as good as possible now.
Did a quick video of the progress. Getting close. Running pretty smooth, just a little low on power on gas but close.

Always something to do.
Today i changed out the anti roll bar link tie rod and bushes.
Also changed the Rear radius arm bushes. (think thats what there called)
Took bullbar off to do some mods to it to better secure the winch and better mounting to the chassis. Also to extend the outer most point of where the winch cable is protruding. Will finish that tomorrow.

While looking at the bullbar i have i find myself wondering why i did not make one myself from scratch actually.

Had to do more work than i thought on the bullbar and chassis.
There are only 2 bolts securing the bullbar on either side through the chassis.
There is a third hole but it does not have crushing tube so basically is useless as a mount point.

Decided to cut up my old jack handle (2mm thick pipe) beveled the ends and use that as crushing tube.

Got out the tig and fusion welded the tube to the chassis.

Welds dont look clean but it was hard to access there and ultimately it was only a fusion. No filler.
Cleaned that up as it has to be flush thus the bevel in the pipe.

Tacked on some crappy old washers to give the correct spacing as the front 2 holes which have a plate there. Should i have used plate? Yes but i had none that diameter sitting around. For what i am trying to achieve i dont think it will matter much as the crushing tube is there welded in.

Done that on both sides so now atleast i can use a third bolt on each side of the bullbar to help secure it better. (One the opposite side it i am using the same washer size but thats on the bolt not welded in.)

As for the bullbar well thats a work in progress. Taking longer than expected as i made up a whole new box for the winch to sit and welded that into the existing bullbar. So the bolts that secure bullbar to the chassis now go through 12mm of steel!! Here is one of my welds. Using Stick here. Im not a pro welder! Learned through trial and error and watching youtube videos! But im happy with the welds.

That above image is where it secures to the chassis. Hard to see in the image. I will get more done as my progress continues.

Introduced Eddie, our D1, to Sid our new to us D3. I'm having trouble coming to terms with the fact that Eddie will have to go
He has been the best vehicle we have owned and taken us all over Oz with ne'er an issue.

My problem exactly and I feel your pain. I have a brilliant (for me) D1 and last year bought a D3. Because of family members borrowing money and being lax in returning it, I’m probably going to have to sell the D1. It’s like losing a member of the family!

I'm hoping someone here will take him, when I get the fortitude to put up a For Sale thread

You could wait a few more years until the vehicle is 30yrs old and then club rego it
