    Yeah.
    Details in the D1 forum.

Min temp drop about 10-15°C from what it was previously.
A few anomalies, but so far well worth the scoop.

Other way I'm thinking about it, is a bonnet scoop too.
My scoop is literally about an inch deep, 600mm wide ... under bullbar.
And just directed at the top of the chassis rail, basically directly into the trans cooler(Auto).
I'm sure it'll have an effect on trans oil temp .. no doubt too.

looks good and seems to work well. one thing that came to mind though and maybe you don;t do any water crossings etc. but do you think this would cause issues if you were to do so or go across mud?

Don't do water crossings regularly, but do them all the same where required.
In terms of solidity of the scoop, I doubt that water crossing will affect it. The two front bolts are solid enough.
I'm worried about it getting 'bashed' on steep ramp entrys tho .. or rocks or whatever.
I deliberately kept the leading edge of the scoop as far back as I could(actually missed by 5mm or so), so that it's tucked back and under as best as can be .. given the bodge job that it really is.
1.2mm gal sheet is easy enough to bend back into shape if it gets any damage.

And at it's trailing end the scoop is basically directed at the base of the trans cooler, so hopefully helps keeping that cooler than it otherwise has been.
Crossing murky/muddy waters will obviously force contaminated stuff into the cooling fins, I'd say more so than without the scoop .. so something I'l have to keep an eye on if it comes to it.
Also in winter on wet roads, more specifically wet dirt roads .. I'd say more dirty wet crud will be directed to the trans cooler .. so I do have it in mind that with every service I'll keep an eye on it's cleanliness and deal with it as needed.

Thinking back to yesterday(Sun 3rd) I should have gone for a drive considering it was 40 again .. Too lazy tho, kids were feeling lazy .. so we had a lazy family day all round .. and I roasted them all day.. leaving A/C in the house off all day!

    .. that'll teach 'em!

Now!!!! .. almost certainly I've singlehandedly solved the global warming issue with this mod.
I'll bet my last dollar, now that I've sorted it's running hot issue with A/C running on hot days .. it'll never ever get above 35°C .. for as long as I own my D1 now.

    Dealing with Overheating Issue

My '96 DI V8 has been suffering mild overheating on the 35+ deg days here in Adelaide, evidenced by the fact that it's been pushing coolant out of the make-up tank.

So I decided that being 22 years old (the car that is!), I should take out the radiator and get it professionally cleaned out. I took it to APM Mechanical who estimated it had been about 20% blocked when I picked it up. He also suggested my fan's viscous coupling might be U/S as well and since it's much easier to get out with the radiator out, I should change it.

Good call as it turned out!

I got a replacement hub from Phil at TR Spares and put it on before I put the radiator back in - not that hard when you've got the right spanner and a big mallet.

Now with the car all back together, I've driven it up to work and it has a noise which I haven't heard for a very long time (now I think about it). It's that sound like rushing air which happens when the hub locks up and the fan actually starts working because the hub got hot.

I believe that with a clean radiator and a working fan hub, the temperature gauge is now sitting a little lower and in 3 days I've lost no water at all.

Very happy with the outcome for a total cost of around $350 - I don't have to worry that I might be cooking the engine any more when I drive it on a hot day.

What did you do with or to your Disco today

Finally sorted my steering shake. Seems my king rims have a 60 deg nut seat angle , std D1 steel nuts have 80 deg. Machined some spare nuts to 60 deg and all good. Had previously done swivel preload, balanced wheels, new tierod ends, new steering damper What did you do with or to your Disco today

So the shake was due to rims moving in relation to studs or not being properly centred on hub?
    Good find.

Not centred I guess. You could see the witness mark on the rims where the nuts were bearing only on the very top of the taper, which on a pressed rim is not exactly the flattest surface. Nuts also felt like they sat on top, not sitting snug in the taper when tried with the rim off, if you get what I mean. If I had a 60 deg countersink, would have been nice to give the rims a cleanup as well.

Installed a twin 12v socket in the coin holder, it fit perfectly What did you do with or to your Disco today
Used 2 separate runs of 1.8mm twin sheath to the battery instead of piggy backing the sockets. The cables rated at 15amp im pretty sure so ill install a 15 amp fuse in the battery box.
Need to square it up a little ot was getting dark out so ill sort that tommorow and the final connection to the battery.
Ill take some better photos during the day.
    Cheers

Picked up my Discovery1 on Saturday.
    My first ever 4x4.
Then had a 354 km drive home to my place. Certainly a good shakedown for me on how it drove and handled.
I learnt very quickly to kick down out of lockup to maintain a 100 km/ph speed up hills, otherwise the speed scrubbed off quite quickly.
The steering had a lot of kickback in the wheel, though the truck itself was not wandering over the road, over rougher patches. Maybe I need to check the steering damper? Perhaps I am also just used to cars and rack and pinion steering!
I went thru just under 1/2 tank of fuel to travel the 354 kms.
Love the driving position, quite upright which I prefer.
I was surprised at how well it cornered considering the weight/height.
Also discovered the next day, whilst giving the interior a good clean, and getting the dust out of the engine bay, that 1: the cruise isn’t working, and 2: the headlight washers are missing from the bumper, found the hoses and some blocked off pipes under the bumper. Will get some washers from Rimmer Bros and see if I can get them to go again.
Annoyingly, the water isn’t reaching the rear screen washer either. Not sure if the jet is blocked or not yet, ran out of daylight on Sunday.
Have to workout why the ‘tail lights’ in the bumper aren’t working, replaced the bulbs, but nothing went, the indicators beside them are though.
Hood lining needs to be redone, but at least it isn’t hanging down, it has just shrunk away from all the edges.
So all in all, very happy with my purchase, and the jobs that need doing are all within my skill set!
    Graeme
