Just check you don't have a true track in the rear.....
why Dave?
have not been able to free up and lock the cdl thus far , drove out the road and gave it a go up a med grade hill climb . She powered up , drives fine in straight line , no gearbox noise when shifting . As soon as i solve the prob i will let you know . Thanks for the ideas . Am a bit happier now that i have been on and off the beach and up the hill . Gotta love the old girl , Whats 520 000km in human yrs ??? she is still going :D
Check to see if you have a handbrake drum half full of sand, drop the rear shaft at the hand brake drum, undo the few counter sunk screws and slide drum off, easy , Regards Frank.
So after 3 mechs looked at the mighty disco and no answers given i have decided she is going to be put out to stud on my mates farm . Rego runs out in feb so a few more fishing trips up the beach and that shall do her .
Are these Land Rover mechanics or the local grease monkey?
Take it to a landy mechanic, you obviously like the truck so it is worth spending a few bob on it to get it right.
You havent mentioned if its auto or manual, if the auto is on the way out they can stick then give the bang you have described.
Cheers guys but its time to go , my mate will use it to teach his kids how to drive on the farm . The car is a manual and yes one of the mechanics was a Land Rover specialist . If there wasnt a fair amount of rust in it i would fix but the years of fishing on the beach have taken its toll . Dare i say it but a chopped GQ wagon to dual cab ute is what i am thinking about for my next rig .
