Tyres

255/85/16 will fit with flares etc. you will have some scrubbing on articulation, the plates that hang the rear mudflaps can be modified to reduce the scrubbing. without offset rims steering bump stops will have to be adjusted or the tyres will scrub on the radius arms. stock gearing will be woeful, torque converter on auto will absorb it ok, but manuals suffer (which do you have?) it is a bit of a try and see, some people from both auto and manual vehicles are ok with it, some change the gearing.

Thanks for the help. I drive an auto since you asked. I had a quick look yesterday and it looks like the mud flap bits just bolt off so I might just remove them seeing has the map flaps are long gone.

Also I think my dad has an old 110 defender transfer box somewhere so I might try to fit that. I belive that they are 1.18 rather than the discos 1.12. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Also I purchased some flares :) happy days!! Just have to wait for them to arrive now.

I believe the Defer t/c is about the 1.4:1 so 32" tyres and that gearing is about the same as stock.

Ahh okay but it would still help wouldn't it? Or would I be better of just to re gear my current setup? Also thanks for your help!

It would help high range but not low. Depending on what $ need to be spent on it it could be line ball between diff gears and the t/c.

As others have said tc change is not the best solution.

Leave drivers side plate in place, it protects the fuel filler pipe. Just flatten it out a bit.

Thanks for the tip. Safety first. I'll just bash it with a hammer until I'm happy with it. Hopefully the flares won't take to long and I can have them fitted with new tyres before I head to Fraser island.
