I had a similar problem once, but my aftermarket switches were somewhat smaller than the original ones and would not fit the surround. I used some of the blanks and drilled a suitable sized hole through them, making a snug fit for the switch.
Maybe you could simply widen the aperture in the surround by grinding of a millimetre or so?
Good luck!

There are people who spend all weekend cleaning the car.
And there are people who drive Discovery.
I went to the wreckers and got more switches that fit into the surround, I use one for my spotties.
^^ this
I used some factory switches out of my 'spare' range rover for the spotty and light bar switches in my early D1's dash.
yeh the switches i want to use are lazer etched but are abit larger than the standard switches
stock switch measures 26mm long by 15mm wide
new switches measure 35mm long by 21mm wide
thats substantially bigger. I'd say they just wont fit in that location.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".
