    Help with door !

    Hi all,

The front passenger door on the disco will not open no matter what I try.
I have held up the button ( little spring was changed last year ) and tapped it with a rubber mallet !

I have managed to remove the door trim and tried all of the leavers by hand !

If anyone has a clue of what else to try I would appreciate it.

I spent 3 hours in the hot car today with no luck !

    Cheers
    Andrew

    Hi Andrew,

You've done what I would have. Were there any loose rods around the door lock when you have the tried. I'm thinking that perhaps a clip that holds one of the rods has broken off or come off. If that is the case then try to find the bit of the lock mechanism where it most likely went into and try to move that.

Otherwise something has happened inside the lock and perhaps taking a pair of long nose pliers and pulling at the mechanism inside may free it.

Apart from that I wish you well in getting it fixed. It is painful when the doors play up like that. Let us know how you go.

    Hi Mike,

Well 2 hours later laying on my guts with my legs in the air swearing like a gutter rat it bloody opened!

I used your suggestion but I have no idea what made it release?

I tried to be methodical at first for another poor bugger who has to do this but gave up after the first hour.

Just pushed and pulled everything in the end and it popped !

    Wow what a mission.

Thanks for your suggestion I am off to try it stop my ribs from cramping now lol

    Cheers

    Hi Andrew,

I'm glad it opened. Probably the next thing I'd do after seeing the physio for all the contortion you did is pull the lock out and see where/why it failed. Dust got into the rear door of mine and it jammed the lock. I found spraying some carby cleaner cleared that up. I've not had that happen on the side doors though and wouldn't have thought they could get that much dust.

    regards,

When helping a fellow forum member with his rear door we also tried every rod lever we could find, in the end i just happened to look at the catch and went to scrape out what i thought was hardened grease that turned out to be a piece of soft plastic caught in the jaws.

    Smile

Ah if only that was the problem with mine.

The thing has cracked and is well and truly dead !

Roverlord has hooked me up with a new one so should be all good when I get it back together.

Not sure my ribs will ever be the same but I am sure the pain will ease soon lol

    Cheers
    Andrew
