    300tdi fuel pump tune

Is anyone in the Melbourne area good at tweaking the fuel pump on a 300tdi?

    Hi jberryman868.
I am not in the Melbourne area and I am not "good" at tweaking the fuel pump on a 300tdi.
So why am I replying I hear you ask...

It just so happens that I spent most of yesterday tweaking my own 300TDi using this guide:
    http://www.landroverweb.com/Pdf-file...ines_Rev_2.pdf

I am very happy with the results I achieved and it gave me a very good understanding of what goes on in the injector pump's Boost Compensation unit.
This may one day come in handy when there is no one else around but me to fix it.
It did take me a fair bit of time and mucking around, but I was glad I wasn't paying a mechanic to be doing it.

Good luck with whatever option you choose.

This is good info, I used it too, it actually originates here ThermoGuard Instruments. Whichever way you go, whether you do it yourself or get someone else to do the work - its a good idea to use an EGT gauge to monitor the temperatures. If it goes well the manifold and turbo are going to get hot at some point, especially hills. Have a read of more info from the above link.

    Spel1 is right.
I have one of Thermoguard's EGTs installed and I waited until I did before I tried to tweak the pump.
The EGT is a great indicator of how hard the engine is working.

(The hardest thing was finding the right hill to work the motor for long enough...)

Ian from Thermoguard is a wealth of knowledge and still drives the 300TDi Disco that he bought new in '97, and they still tow a 2.2 tonne caravan around parts of the country with it. A great testament to the Disco.

And really, if I can work out how to adjust the pump, anyone can... Ha ha.

I did mine a couple of years ago and what a difference
I followed Ian from Thermoguard instructions and also fitted his EGT gauge before I tweaked the pump, very important as EGT's did rise over the recommended 720c so I had to detune a bit.
There are several video's on youtube to assist in the tuning but its pretty straight forward.

Before starting to play with FIP, EGT gauge is a must I'd say. After doing my pump tweaks, on the freeway incline, that needle rises to 700+ so easily.

I fitted a boost gauge and egt as others said before fiddling. I also fitted a boost controller, it allows you to tweak the boost up, which i did a tiny bit, but it also helps by only allowing prssure to waste gate when it reaches the limit, so in theory it increases pressure a bit quicker.
To get the best out of it and make it easier to drive i recommend that the star wheel adjustment is done, i haven't gone back and done it, so i feed the throttle otherwise you can get a fair bit of black smoke.
Really has made a big difference, I'm not sure which is best , my td5 or the 300tdi ...

Take the feed for the waste gate off of the manifold take the compensator from the turbo. If you have a boost gauge take it off the manifold
