Thread: disco starting problem

Check your starter connections. Try wiggling the main power cable and see if that makes a difference, if it does just tighten up the nut but its a bugger to get a spanner on from memory.

And make sure you disconnect the battery beforehand, unless you like fireworks.

I don't know how to test just know from experience maybe the crank sensor. sorry misread if it wont even crank must be power issue sorry.

do your dash lights come on or no power at all if you have power but no crank try giving the solenoid on the starter motor a hit. you can always test if you have 12v at the coil first

sorry i should of said its for a mate, he has all his dash lights like normal but just nothing, batt fully charged no issues there

If he has power but no crank i would check the starter motor solenoid first. see if there is 12 v when he tries to crank if yes the solenoid may be stuck give it a spray with some lanox and tap with a dead blow hammer. if no power at starter motor check start relay.

It could also be the immobiliser circuit. Do a google search for disco 1 spider bypass. There's plenty of info on it.

Had the same problem and found it is related to the imobiliser. In my case if open the car by using the key into the door instead of using toggle to unlock then the ignition would not crank the motor. Found that if you lock your car with toggle and unlock with toggle, the car will start. That's my 2 bob

it could also be as simple as a corroded battery terminal, loose cable on battery or earth to the body / chassis.
