Your disco should have 24 spline axles, classic rangie should be 10 spline.
I don't think it would be worth converting to 10 spline axles just to get the diff lock unless it's very cheap.

It's free and I believe there are a upgraded axles such as the ashcroft products. Will be confirming this, otherwise I wouldn't be going down the ten spline path.

You might be lucky and find that everything was upgraded to 24 spline when the locker went in.

Yes it should, but you could always stick the entire housing in, i, pretty sure that will fit too.

I thought that there is a difference in length to the flange face from the diff centre in a D1 axle vs the solid cap RRC axle.

If that is the case, if the diff centre has 24 spline sockets , you could use your D1 axles. If the diff centre has 10 spline sockets it would become more difficult, and need the sockets broached to 24 spline.

This in turn will depend on whether the diff centre is a "metric" centre as the bearings are bigger in a metric centre than an old early 80s 'imperial" centre.
So IMHO , you have a bit of study to do.

    PS do you have ABS?

Thanks for the info that's the sort of stuff I was chasing, negative on the ABS i specifically bought mine as it had no air bags or abs . I drive a lot of new 4wds and I'm not a bit fan of electronics on my 4wd.

I'm going to pull the axles out today on the range rover if it's not fine spline I'll give it a miss, and just look at getting some kind of locker (ashcroft or AR to strengthen the spider gears in the future. Thanks for the help guys it appreciated

Like mentioned above, there is different spacings on the stub axles.
The 24 spline drive flanges won't be fitting onto the hubs whilst utilising the 10 spline stub axles.

Pic shows the height difference between the (10 spline) stub axle on the left and the 24 spline stub axle on the right.
N.b. The right hand 24 spline stub axle is an ABS one but can be used as long as you are careful fitting the gasket between the axle housing and the stub axle due to much reduced gasket area where the stub axle is cut out for the ABS sensor.
