Rattle gun :)
Or wrap a strap around it a few times and tie that off to stop it rotating.
Did I mention a rattle gun...? :P

yea i would do the rattle gun except there is no room. can only get a spanner in there. ill try your strap suggestion, well string coz there is no room to fit much else. thanks
use a filter strap
i could use my hands if it was just a matter of holding the body of the damper. the problem is that the thread on the cover side spins independant to the body. so unless you are holding onto the thread itself somehow it wont tighten. the other end is fine you just hold onto the body. the silly thing is the thread on that end has a square on the end to help you tighten it. where as the opposite side which actually neds a little square on the end of the thread because you cant hold onto anything is thread all the way.
i thought germans were smart?
OK i figured it out last night for anyone else coming across this in the future (maybe need to move this thread?). the end which was hard to tighten (cover end), has an allen key slot on the tip of the thread. 4mm from memory. so that stops the thread from turning whilst you are tigthtening.
for anyone who may buy bilstein steering damper one day.
I usually grab a pair of Stillsens.
Stillsens on one end, spanner on the other.
(spelling of Stillsens not guaranteed):)
