Finished it all off today.

Managed to mate up the snorkel and air box easy enough, so I then shortened my intake piping

This allowed the box to fit up and it also kept everything pretty tight which I was pleased with. Which ended with up fitting like this.

The over all product. Bit of white gap filler spray painted black. Not the prettiest, but it will be dirty and stained in no time. Started up and put my hand over the snorkel and the car died, and the suction pulled in a bung which hadn't dried properly. So it seals well! Glad it does, cause I've got enough sealant on everything to refloat the titanic. Only hope I don't have to pull it apart in the future cause it'll be a doozy.

If I had to do it again, I probably wouldn't. Not having the correct snorkel made it a right pain in the backside. Having a template would have helped. Those two things easily doubled/tripled the time that it should have taken.

Remember to seal up any holes in the air box.
But a secondary question... Where is your cruise control vacuum hose?

I removed a 302 from a 67 Ford F350 today.....dont talk to me about blood loss.....bloody thing!!! And I had to use my bobcat to get it out (on my own).....tomorrow the replacement engine....oh sheesh!!!.

Funny you should ask. All my lines had perished, so I simply removed them. Plus the control unit behind the headlight and the sensor on the brake pedal. I only did that a couple of days ago. Or, are you meaning that I should put a bung on the back end of the throttle? Having so many damn lines running every where is annoying. Next up on the chopping block will be the throttle heating lines. Plug those suckers up!

I sealed up the four or so small drain holes in the bottom, sealed in the old rubber mounts and sealed on both of the hoses to and from the snorkel. New o-ring for the MAF too, so should all be decently water tight. I don't plan on having water wheel high too often, the snorkel is more for 'just in case'

Well, after the success of this morning, I figured I'd replace the sump gasket. Only a very very small leak. But it is the only leak underneath the car has, plus I had a new one laying about so figured I'd get it done tonight. Good time to replace oil and filter which has also been on my to do list.

Once the sump came off I gave it a good clean. The picture shows a fine layer of slim in the bottom of the pan as I'm half way through cleaning it. No gasket either, just goop.

Then cleaned. The gasket sits on a raised section, so the entire lip didn't get cleaned. The old goop was pretty well stuck on some areas. After running my finger along the top it felt fairly uneven, so guessed they used goop instead of a gasket as it would fill in the gaps a bit better. None the less, cleaned up, new gasket in and while it was off the oil pick up got a clean too.

This is a combo of the drained oil, oil pick up and slim from the sumps crud. This is a fairly course mesh I filter it through before going into the drain can. A lot of grit was in the oil pick up and a fair bit of it is the old gasket. So, who knows, maybe I'll get a psi or two extra oil pressure.

Whilst doing this I was messaging my friend with the near identical D2. He said he was 'impressed' but I had said I was going to pull my diff out and he some what threw down the challenge that I couldn't/wouldn't get it done tonight. Little does he know I'm on night shift tomorrow so I simply stayed up doing it.

Car went on stands, then I drained the oil from the rear diff... It was silver. Not a good start! Shows the fine metal left after being drained. It was like panning for gold, except this will send you broke.

Well a tip for young players is, undo the tail shaft and then jack the car up - remove the shaft prior to putting it on stands as the increased angle will make it easier to pull off. That took about 2 mins of wondering how the hell was I going to get it that last mm or two off the spline to work out.

Everything looked fine. So I'm not really sure where the metal is coming from. I found a couple of places where it appears a bit of metal on metal action has occurred, but I don't know if it is normal or not. I'm hoping someone here can see and tell me if the marks are normal. It is on both sides where the axle meets the housing. Also, 24 spline axles, hooray!

You going to weld it up?

I ended up bypassing my throttle heating lines as well. Mostly because it corroded and began to leak.
I did not block them as there is no need. Just routed the water line back to the radiator.

Yep, I'm dropping it off this arvo and should have it back about this time tomorrow. $20, so here's to future lessons I guess!

I'll likely also block/reroute my heater as well while I'm at it. Darwin doesn't quite need a heater.

Wont welding the diff wear the hell out of the rear tyres? Or is this just for off roading?
